Blog---April 22, 2025---9-10---It’s YOUR Business---
Our It’s YOUR Business Show---does give us opportunities to talk with elected officials and people that were chairing meetings with 500 people attending even in small towns. We did that in our 9:00 list of guests today.
Congressman Dusty Johnson---is listening in on a statewide tourism meeting in Sioux Falls today---and as we was just starting to visit with leaders from around the state---we had just talked to the Congressman about the importance of tourism and what he is seeing and hearing around South Dakota. His take was that we have and continue to do very well ---and the hopes are that with what this tourism tribe is doing—and hopefully what the posse in DC is doing—will keep people enjoying coming to South Dakota.
We also talked about the kind of calls he is getting from constituents--- concerned about what to expect whether it be the farm bill, tariffs or something else. We both agreed that is important for Dusty, Senators Rounds and Thune to be available and be seen as taking care of business for our residents.
He of course along with his Senate friends---give the current administration higher marks than I would give them—not taking any political poster. But it’s obvious they understand they work for our State—and will answer questions as needed.
Teri Schmidt---will give us a report on the Tourism Meeting in our 10:00 show on Wednesday.
I attended a “home-town” meeting with Sioux Valley Energy last night in Hartford—several hundred attended----and Jay Buckholz was among the leaders that chaired the meeting—along with Carrie Vugeveen. Jay and others were looking this morning at what was asked, how it was received, all a part of 10 district meetings across their energy territory. It is always encouraging when you get a report----to those attending----and that they take questions. The Hartford Mayer---Jessie Fonkert—who works with State Leaders was there as well---the bait---meet with friends—enjoy a meal and a cookie chaser. Many were called to the podium to answer questions—and it gave those attending that it was a “team” effort and that there is concern anytime charges have been to raised--- but they are acting “reasonably” keeping households in mind.
Among the other guests for the Show—the Lion’s Club sent Todd Smith---on what is the first of two pancake days 4 start today---and 6AM to 8PM on Wednesday. Todd has been working with the Lions Folks since the last century----but he shared his thoughts in this 68th year how many pancakes would be served today---and what to expect tomorrow. Lions Club—like so many service clubs reach out ---and use the money the Pancake Days earns for community projects. At one of the early runs----Aunt Jamima herself came to speak in Sioux Falls. While she is no longer with us today—the tradition continues—and we love to share what groups are doing to not only raise money for needed causes---but to bring people together to enjoy seeing friends they haven’t seen in years-or meet new people who need to be welcomed into the community.
Jessie Schmidt---BBB of South Dakota—explained her project coming this weekend—It’s the Annual Document Shred Event----8 to noon on Saturday. It is TOUCHLESS—for the safety of yourself and other volunteers. You can stay in your vehicle and have the items you would liked shredded in the backseat of your vehicle or from your trunk. Suggested donation is $5.00 per box or bag.
