WORDSWORTH, JANE AUSTEN AND CRIME! - An Interview with Susannah Fullerton

View descriptionShare

DC is channeling his Bridget Jones today - all by himself, whilst Lisa is in Madrid.  He talks about all things Austen News (whoosh) before revealing the pair’s recent interview with Jane Austen Society of Australia President and literary scholar, Susannah Fullerton.

She talks about The Other Bennet Sister (TOBS!  TOBS!  TOBS!), focussing on the inclusion of Wordsworth and his poetic revolution.  She explains what characters like Mr Hayward and Mr Ryder’s love of Wordsworth would have meant at the time and plus investigating the importance of the inclusion of works like Composed Upon Westminster Bridge in TOBS. She then discusses her book, Jane Austen and Crime, exploring Regency crime, harsh punishments, and darker subtexts in Austen’s works, including gypsies, prostitution, and hints about Mrs. Clay!
