In this week’s episode, Geoff chats with Theresa Mitchell, who is representing Agape Outreach Inc – Winner’s of the 2023 NSW/ACT Community Achievement Awards - Awards Australia Connecting Communities Award.

Agape Outreach Inc was founded by Theresa Mitchell in 2009, started with distributing meals to those in need. It has since grown to over 240 volunteers, providing 800 weekly meals across New South Wales and Queensland. Agape's model rescues edible foods to create meals, reflecting its mission of unconditional love and commitment to helping the vulnerable

Kalyra is at the forefront of the battle against ageism, recognising the need to break down stereotypes and prejudices. Through the co-location of a Montessori Middle School within Kalyra Woodcroft Aged Care, Kalyra has created a unique platform for intergenerational activities. Students and residents engage in shared experiences, fostering mutual understanding and empathy. Overcoming challenges, including opposition and COVID-19, Kalyra remains dedicated to the cause. Their program is reshaping perceptions of older individuals and challenging ageist assumptions. It exemplifies how intergenerational connections can pave the way for a more inclusive and age-friendly society, ensuring that ageism becomes a thing of the past.

Through its Digital Programs and Virtual Community, trained volunteers provide companionship, support, and learning experiences that promote social engagement and personal growth for participants. Inclusee believes that everyone should be able to build lasting connections and enjoy a rich social life, regardless of their location or circumstances. The dynamic virtual community of Inclusee serves as a lifeline, significantly reducing social isolation and positively impacting the physical and mental health of older Australians.
