One of These Injuries is Bad

View descriptionShare

One of this week’s NFL injury mysteries finally makes sense. Unfortunately, the answer isn’t especially good.

It’s Football Friday on Injury Territory, and Will Carroll and Edward Egros are back with the injury intelligence you need heading into the weekend. At the top of the show is Sam Darnold, where new information about a glute tendon issue helps explain what has been happening since his hip subluxation. Will connects the anatomy to the original injury: how abnormal movement of the femur can stress the gluteal tendons attached around the hip, and why getting the joint back into position doesn’t necessarily mean the surrounding soft tissue escaped unharmed.

The injury report doesn’t get much quieter from there. Will and Edward break down the latest on DJ Moore, Kyler Murray, Brock Bowers and Chris Olave, along with several other situations worth watching before kickoff. Which injuries are likely to affect availability? Which could affect performance even if the player is active? And which injury-report designations are creating more noise than useful information?

Then Edward goes into the data to ask a different kind of injury question: Which NFL quarterbacks are being put at risk by their own offensive lines? Pressure rate, protection and quarterback exposure aren’t the same thing as predicting an injury, but repeatedly putting a QB in bad situations creates more opportunities for bad things to happen. Edward looks for the quarterbacks spending too much time under pressure—and the offensive lines giving them too little help.
It’s the intersection of sports medicine and football analytics that Football Friday is built for: understanding the injury, understanding the circumstances around it, and figuring out what actually matters before everyone starts panicking over a questionable designation.

For the latest on Sam Darnold’s hip and glute injury, DJ Moore injury news, Kyler Murray injury updates, Brock Bowers injury, Chris Olave injury news, NFL quarterback pressure, offensive line rankings, QB injury risk, fantasy football injuries, NFL sports medicine, return-to-play timelines and NFL injury analysis, it’s Football Friday on Injury Territory.

Better information. Better context. Injury intelligence.
