On today's episode of the podcast, we bring you Joe Molloy's last dispatch from New York City, where he caught up with former Irish boxing star John Duddy.
After leaving Derry for New York at 21 to pursue a professional career, Duddy became a favourite among the city's Irish community, headlining Madison Square Garden four times. On the verge of a world title, he shocked boxing by retiring at just 31, insisting the passion for fighting was gone.
Now 47, Duddy has rediscovered his love for the sport as a coach at Trinity Boxing Club, working with everyone from aspiring fighters to Parkinson's patients. Along the way, he's also built a successful acting career, appearing alongside Robert De Niro no less.
Joe meets John in downtown Manhattan to discuss that remarkable journey, and the fulfilling second act he's built beyond the ring.
