But the case that took the wind out of him was that of the 2014 Lindt Cafe Siege - where 18 people were held hostage by a lone gunman in Sydney’s CBD, and he was among those first on scene.

But nothing in her training prepared her for what happened when she became a victim-survivor herself.

In this episode of I Catch Killers, Caroline opens up about growing up in a home where love and violence lived side by side, the silence she inherited from her mother, and the sexual assault that left her questioning why her body froze when she thought she would fight. Caroline breaks down the freeze response, a trauma reaction still misunderstood by police, juries, and the public, and explains why survivors are so often blamed instead of believed.
