Fore-Mothers of a French speaking nation. In 1665, a royal program to supply women for the many men of New France was initiated, and the Filles du Roi (aka The King’s Women or Daughters) arrived by the hundreds to help settle and populate the crown colony of French Monarch Louis XIV (1638-1715; r.1643-1715).
