482. Mardi Gras

View descriptionShare

French for ‘Fat Tuesday,’ Mardi Gras reflects the Christian practice of the last night of consuming rich, fatty foods in preparation for the fasting season of Lent. Mardi Gras is the final day of Carnival before Ash Wednesday. Many related popular practices and traditions are associated with Carnival celebrations (especially in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA) before the fasting and religious obligations associated with the penitential season of Lent.
