WWI (1914-18) was a global conflict whose horrendous battlefields consumed a generation of young Christian men on Europe’s Western Front. Canadian soldier John McCrae (a Presbyterian; 1872-1918) and American humanitarian Moina Michael (a Methodist; 1869-1944) sparked a remembrance movement in honor of the war dead and veterans, forever inspired by the phrase “Between the crosses, row on row.”
