In 2010, cosmetics millionaire Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya was on the verge of closing a lucrative land deal when she would disappear after leaving for a business meeting in Banting, Selangor.  However, things would take a much darker turn when the burnt and battered remains of Lawiya and her entourage were found abandoned at a farm, suggesting something far more sinister was in play.

In the spring of 2016, the calm waters of Central Vietnam’s Hatin Province transformed into a scene of ecological devastation, with thousands of fish washing ashore belly-up. But what first appeared to be a seasonal fluke quickly escalated into a national crisis as the toxic tide spread across four provinces, poisoning the food chain and even claiming the lives of seasoned divers.

Investigations would uncover severe lapses in safety protocols at a massive steel plant in the area, enabling lethal doses of chemicals to be dumped directly into the sea. But placing accountability proves to be difficult, as the issue is mired behind politics and industrial interests; ultimately resulting in an environmental crisis that may take decades to fully recover.

The Formosa Steel Plant Disaster | Heinous History | 2016

It's April of 2011. A man named Anxiang Du opens an envelope from the court. Inside, he finds a legal document that would change his life, and the lives of another family completely. For Du, he had been mired in more than a decade of legal disputes and now, there was no more room left for him to run. That very night, he would write a farewell note to his family, before proceeding to commit one of Britain's most chilling crimes.

 

Part 1 - We trace the history and tense relationship between the Dus and the Dings. Where their business partnership originated from, and how it soured to a messy legal battle that pushed Du to the brink.
