Minnehaha County Deputy Katherine Frank was 26 years old. She answered a call Friday night in southwest Sioux Falls and did not come home. She died yesterday, surrounded by her family. She had been with the sheriff’s office a little over two years. Before that she worked at the state penitentiary. She was an organ donor.

For years we have heard that police are the problem. Defund. Abolish. A routine stop treated like a provocation. That talk does not stay on a screen. It reaches people who already have a grudge or a gun. Most officers still come home. Some do not. Katherine Frank did not.
