The latest purge followed the dismissal of Defence Minister Li Shangfu in October, indicating a strong commitment to military reforms.

Simultaneously, top executives of China's three major state-owned military-industrial enterprises—China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, China Ordnance Industries Group Corporation Limited (or Norinco Group), and China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation—are also under investigation.
