The third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation was held in China on October 18. It was one of the key events to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The BRI, consisting of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, was established with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Silk Road Fund. It has provided $230 billion in infrastructure financing to the countries along its routes in the last 10 years. However, it has also faced many criticisms and accusations such as debt traps, corruption and environmental issues.
In this episode of Global Heartbeat podcast, Lianhe Zaobao’s Second Foreign Editor Ng Hon Kuan and China News Editor Yang Danxu review BRI’s journey in the past decade, and assess its future prospects.
