Spies sets South African records at SA National Track Cycling Championships

SA track cycling national champion Jean Spies’ world rankings is set to increase following his stunning performance at the Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town at the weekend . Spies took home gold titles in the Kilo, Keirin and Sprint races, and summed up his spectacular weekend winning silver in the Scratch race, and also achieved UCI points. Spies broke two national records particularly in the 2, 00m Sprint race with a time of 10.42 sec and the Kilo race at a time of 1:04.18. The self-funded athlete, Spies has had a jam-packed week of cycling, also breaking new ground in the many Track Cycling disciplines through the week. Spies’ world rankings of 31st in the Keirin and 42nd in the Sprint earn him a direct entry into the World Cup Season. He has received confirmation of his entries into the first two UCI Track World Cups after chasing points and world ranking places over the last few months.
