For a change there hasn’t been recycling of coaches in South African football. Orlando Pirates announced their new head coach Kjell Jonevret from Sweden this morning, he comes in to replace Muhsin Ertugral who resigned from the club after they lost 6-1 to Supersport United in November last year. He’s got a daunting task of turning the fortunes of Pirates around, as they have now gone nine matches without a win in all competitions. But the 54year-old who has signed a three year deal at Pirates was quick to acknowledge that this won’t be a quick fix job. Jonevret who has been coaching in his home country and Norway since he started sitting on the bench 24years ago, is getting his first job outside those two countries. He’s not only coming outside Europe for the first time but will be getting first time exposure in African football, what’s his state of readiness for that adjustment. . One of his challenges at Pirates is to sort the leaking defense, they have the worst defensive record in the league having concede 27 goals, and fortunately Jonevret has identified this area as the primary focus
