What’s the best thing about your school, and who’s your favourite teacher? We asked pupils at Alleyn’s Regent’s Park and Alleyn’s Hampstead, and their answers kept coming back to the same thing: the teachers who are kind and help them when they get stuck.

So if you’re choosing a new school, make sure you meet the teachers. Find out more at alleyns-regentspark.org.uk and alleyns-hampstead.org.uk.

Choosing a new school: what’s the best thing about your school?

Hear Ottilie’s winning radio advert for Amazing Aluminium! Two friends head to the recycling centre to follow an old drink can, watch the aluminium get sorted from the paper and plastic, and find out what it gets turned into next: new cans, vehicle parts, buildings and electronics.

Plus, a catchy jingle to remind you that aluminium can be recycled over and over again, using far less energy than making it from scratch. Find out more at funkidslive.com/amazing!

Starting a new school is a big deal, and it isn’t only grown-ups who should be asking the questions. We went to Alleyn’s Regent’s Park and Alleyn’s Hampstead and asked pupils one that really matters: what was your first day actually like?

They told us about feeling nervous, not wanting to let go of Dad and the kind teachers who helped them settle in. We found out what happens next, heard how one pupil made a few friends on day one and now counts loads of people as “basically all besties”, and asked whether anyone is still scared now.

Going on a school tour? At some point a grown-up will ask if you have any questions, so we asked pupils at Alleyn’s Regent’s Park and Alleyn’s Hampstead what you should actually ask.

Do they let you be yourself and show your culture, or do you just stick to the manual? Are the teachers fun, and do they put their all into it? What happens if somebody is sad? The pupils explain why a good school isn’t only about how it looks, suggest one very searching question for the science teachers about the periodic table, and remind us of the practical stuff grown-ups forget, like what’s for lunch on a Friday.
