Copyright in the Classroom - David Sohn and Brittany Fleming

View descriptionShare

When we talk about digital literacies, often the first thing that comes to mind is educating kids about privacy, security, and cyberbullying.

Today's children may be large-scale consumers of online media, but they are also creators, publishers, distributors, and critics. The digital landscape is an environment rich with possibilities. Still, it also creates an immediate, practical need: Students have to know how to interact with creative work in ethical and legal ways.

Copyright is becoming an essential element of digital literacy – because everyone is a publisher now.

David Sohn is an attorney who has developed Copyright and Creativity - a free, open-source curriculum to help teachers navigate education on this topic. He's joined on this episode by teacher Brittany Fleming, who uses this curriculum in her classes.
