Zimbabweans debate bill to extend terms to 7 years, raising fears of power consolidation by Mnangagwa

View descriptionShare

Thousands of Zimbabweans have gathered across the country to debate the proposed Constitution Amendment Bill No. 3. The bill proposes extending presidential and parliamentary terms from 5 to 7 years and consolidating executive control over state institutions. Critics say this could prolong President Mnangagwa's tenure until 2030. Public hearings will run until April second. Elvis Presslin spoke to David Coltart, NOT retired Zimbabwean lawyer and Mayor of Bulawayo
