Gauteng is reporting major progress in its fight against Foot-and-Mouth Disease, with new outbreaks dropping by more than 96%. The province says the improvement follows a rapid response that included increased vaccination, disease surveillance, movement controls and stronger cooperation with livestock farmers. More than 542,000 animals have been vaccinated, while 94% of cattle outside feedlots have received an initial vaccination. We spoke to Danisile Sathekge from the Office of the Gauteng MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa, to unpack the latest developments and what happens next.
