Today we’re switching it up a bit and sitting down with Dan’s neighbor Will. Raised on a ridgetop farm he went on to spend the next 45 years milking cows and farming over 800 acres. From the first bite of apple pie baked for the threshing crew to ball games on hay stubble after first crop. Crossing the border with a load of hogs and even a story passed down about a real 1800s outlaw spending the night in a neighbor’s barn! Will’s tales capture a way of living and share timeless life advice.

And the best part? Will is still going strong!

We have a gas today, talking about petrol! Get behind the wheel and we’ll drive to Dad’s fuel barrel. How much was your gas or did Dad just shake his head and smile? The diesel went in a faded
green barrel and gas was rusty red. Nowadays it takes a lot of green just to get rolling down the road!

Did you trust your car to the man who wears the star? Or some other full-service station where “Goober” would “Pyle” on the latest gossip as he filled your tank. Those were the days when we
would say fill ‘er up please!” Buckle up for another trip down memory lane during the baby boomer years!

First Job Feedback Memories 

Grab your favorite toy tractor and hook up the wagon or plow. Add a few toy cows, pigs and chickens from the shoebox barn and, you’ve got your own little farm! Today we’re joining John and Pat Klettke, who turned their love of farm toys into an 8’ x 24’ farm showstopper. The diorama showcases 60 plus years of changes on the farm. There’s a machine shed, crops, barns and a rotary milking parlor that actually rotates!

With “Creativity” as his middle name John remembers how they made corn kernel windrows on Mom’s kitchen floor. Turned Pringles cans into silos and chicken waterers into grain bins. Listening to their tales might just have you searching in the attic for that old box of farm toys – waiting in some dark corner. With carpet for roads, grass for haystacks, and a little imagination, we remember playing while growing up, down on the farm!
