“If someone has done you wrong, do not repay them with a wrong. Try to do what everyone considers to be good.” — Romans 12:17

What do you do when someone hurts you?

Our first instinct is often to defend ourselves, get even, or make sure the other person understands just how much damage they caused. But what if Jesus invites us into a completely different response?

In this episode of Everyday Joy, Ash is joined by Jacquie for a conversation about Romans 12:17 and what it means to choose peace, kindness, and grace when we’ve been wronged.

Together, they unpack why “not repaying evil with evil” doesn’t mean ignoring hurt, avoiding difficult conversations, or pretending everything is fine. Instead, they explore how honest communication, vulnerability, and confronting issues with love can actually lead to healthier relationships and deeper healing.

Ash and Jackie discuss the difference between seeking revenge and seeking restoration, why we often avoid hard conversations, and how one brave conversation can completely change the direction of a relationship.

They also unpack a powerful example of two Christian artists choosing humility over conflict, showing what can happen when we move away from public reactions and towards honest conversations.

If you’ve ever felt hurt, misunderstood, offended, or tempted to make someone “pay” for what they did, this episode will encourage you to respond differently—not because the hurt doesn’t matter, but because Jesus offers a better way.

Because sometimes the most powerful thing you can do after being hurt… is choose peace.
