If you're a Malaysian, then you know that travelling to Europe has always been viewed as being mostly hassle-free, at least when it comes to documentations. We're visa-exempted from a lot of countries, and most of the time, we don't need travel authorisation. That's about to change starting next year, because the European Union has announced new requirements for Malaysians who plan on travelling to 30 countries in the EU. Visitors have to obtain travel authorisation from the European Travel Information and Authorisation System, which will be linked to their passports. So we unpacked what this would require, as well as larger questions on border restrictions and issues that come out of being visa-exempted.
