There’s a new liquor being distilled in Israel: Bourbon. The new Legends Distillery in the area of Beit Shemesh in central Israel has just completed its first bottling and its sweet corn kosher bourbon whiskey can be found in shops across the country and soon abroad as well. While there are loads of wineries and beer breweries in the country, there are less than half a dozen whiskey distilleries in Israel, and Legends is the only one that produces bourbon. It’s located in moshav Zanoah, near the biblical Elah Valley where David slew Goliath. Distillers owners of Legends Alan Cohl and Noam Cohen, both American immigrants, are proud of their newly bottled bourbon called “Slingshot” in a nod to King David. Reporter Arieh O’Sullivan visited the distillery and heard what makes their bourbon Israeli. First to speak is Alan followed by Noam.
