Francesca Albanese, an expert in international law and human rights, is the United Nations rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories. In this interview, recorded in July 2023 as part of the series Aid Industry in Palestine, she denounces the forms of oppression that Israel would intensify after October 7: brutality against Palestinians, repression of critics of its state, a planned and internationally supported campaign of ethnic cleansing, and repeated impunity that has allowed the Israeli state to cage Palestinians in an “open-air prison” — in Gaza and the West Bank.
