Q&A is back for another installment and nothing is off the table for the Drama Queens!
What year of their life would they relive? What is the biggest lesson they learned from doing the show? All that plus celebrity crushes, kissing scenes, Dawson’s Creek and so much more!
First of all, you don't know me. Were all about that high school drama Girl, Drama Girl, all about them high school queens. We'll take you for a ride in our comic girl Cheering for the drama Queens girl Fashion, but you'll tough, girl, you could sit with us Girl Drama Queens, Drama Queen's Drawn mc Queen's Drama John McQueen's Drama Queens. Hey, Hey, hey, friends, we are excited to be back with all of you for a Q and A. This is the first one we've done since we were out on tour. This foost fun. Oh, I'm so glad. I like, uh, maybe our fan base has learned a little bit about us after being on the road. Maybe they've learned a little bit about us after we hung out with all of our fun guests. M feel like Tyler and Buckley really spilled the beans on a lot of stuff. Thanks a lot, dudes. But yeah, maybe all of that information prompted even deeper questions. I wonder if they're going to be deeper sillier. I mean, yeah, what are you guys fishing for? What's our first question? What do you want? Okay? Comentin says, what's your comfort food, peanut butter and jelly on crackers. What you eat, you eat peanut butter, jelly sandwiches on crackers. Sometimes I don't do it very often anymore because it really does immediately make you feel like kind of gross and bloated. But there's sometimes with a glass of milk, I could take three or four those on a plate. What kind of cracker, like a saltine or like a club cracker. That's why I've never heard of jelly on a cracker. And now I'm like, really, here I go. Oh, that was like one of my favorite childhood snacks. You can give it to your kids, they'll think it's amazing. I I don't know why, but one of my favorite things to do. Maybe it's because we drive now so often between you know, our our home in the city and the ranch so and and there's a grocery store I really like, kind of halfway, so it's like the perfect point to pull over, get a snack, pee, get a coffee. I can do everything in one spot. And I love to get like a really good container of chicken salad mary crackers. I just chicken salad. I swear to God, chicken salad with a cracker, the way people eat chips and salsa, which also obviously I love, but like whiskey in the car. Oh, it's just I love it. So what was that grocery store out at the beach that had chicken salad? I feel like you like the chicken salad at the beach of course? Yes? The co op by Um what was that? Yeah? Yeah? What was it? Remember? And they had that cute little deli where you could get like a fall offel wrap. Oh guys, I can't. I just love that place. Chicken sap this man, I don't know, like when people say comfort food, is that something that that I have to make myself off because that's trouble Um. It could be just something that you go pick up. I I don't know, I enjoy. You made fun of me on tour. You were like, you don't like food, Hillary, Like, I'll just literally eat anything that's in front of me and not care at all. I don't think I care about my taste. But I make a chicken pot pie with plopeno and honey. That is want And that is like the thing that I make when I'm like just me time. I love that makes everything? You know what I when you said, order like the thing that I probably order the most often in l A is fun, like Vietnamese news. That is truly my favorite thing to eat. And any time I get home from the trip, like when I got home from tour and just was like a corpse person walking around my house, Grant looked at me and was like, are you okay? And I was like, I don't know. It's early. I feel like I want to go to sleep, but I think I'm not supposed to go to see until it's dark out. And he just went, oh, honey, do you want me to order you some fun? And I was like, yeah, I really do do Yeah? Oh man, No, ordering food is an active love. Carlin says, if you could go back in time and relive one year of your life, which would it be. It's not to like celebrate or to avoid the dumbest thing you've ever done. I need more information, ma'am. Yeah, boy, I would definitely go back and RELI relive a year where I did the dumbest thing ever rather than relive like a fun year, for sure, so you could undo it. Yeah, although you know I do, I will say, and I've talked about this before. My year in New York after I got off the soap opera and I was just living off of my I just spent all my money living in New York um and I saw shows every night, and I ate a great restaurants. And that was from nineteen when I was nineteen to twenty. It was that year and it was just fantastic. That was my favorite favorite. I would be fun to live again. Yeah, I mean this sounds so pathetic, but I really enjoyed my senior year in high school because it was the year I decided I was not going to have any rules for myself. Like I was like, I'm not going to be anyone's girlfriend, but I'm gonna kiss everybody. I'm not gonna, you know, buckle down and commit to anything here in Sterling, Virginia because I'm going to New York. You know. Like I just I dressed the way I wanted to dress. I'd always been really like drawn to androgyny, but felt like the first couple of years of high school, like I had to be this cheerleader. And so senior year, I just leaned into all the weirdness and I had had like a really solid pack of girlfriends, Like was a fun year. We got into so much trouble that year. I would do that again. That sounds like a blast. Maybe that's why I ended up doing a teen drama because I was like, I'm good at this. I can do this game time travel. Yeah, I don't let my kids here that they're gonna be like, you didn't want to go ahead and give birth to me all over again? No? Sorry, you don't want to be pregnant with me again? Mom? No so much. James wants to know what is the thing you learned as a teenager from doing the show that you wish all teens could know, Like what did you learn in round two? Where you were like, oh, I should go back and tell the kids this tidbit. Oh don't take yourself too seriously. Mm hmm. I feel like we get versions of this question a lot, and so I'm always like what did I say before? But so, yeah, what have I remembered since then? I would? I My advice when I was actually in high school was not to drink and do drugs, and like I had I make it. I made a joke out of it. I was like, hugs not drugs, And I started the club Clean Teens in high school to try to make it cool, and I would say that I feel the same way even after doing our show. I think that there are so many pitfalls for kids two you know, fall into ruts or get in trouble or yeah, I think that there's enough hard going on when you're a teenager that you don't need to add those variables. And so yeah, hugs not drugs kids. Valerie wants to know have you ever answered to your character's name in real life? Only only if I knew someone was Usually I don't. If somebody calls out Haley Haley, I don't respond. But there have been days when I'm occasionally like in the mood, and or if somebody's just really really going like Haley Haley, Hey Haley Haley, and I'm like, okay, up, I'll answer yes and then we have a nice chat. But um not nor not otherwise. Yeah, no, if I just heard someone yelled Brooke, I would not turn around. That would look But well, no, it's such a common name, like honestly, I don't think so. Yeah, it's not like Peyton. But I will say, like, best experience ever. I remember years ago I was working in Vancouver and this sweet boy just like I don't know. He must have been like twenty. It was just like flamboyant, gay, fabulous dressed, had like amazing makeup on. Like he was like having a moment and he was like walking, you know, crossing my path wherever we were, and he turned and went, you're Brooke Davis. I'm Brooke Davis. And I was like, yes, you are, Yes, who are you hugging me? Like it was just this fabulous like interaction that we had, and and we wound up having this chat about how her journey on the show got him really into fashion and like it was just it was like a Daymaker experience. But like the way he yelled Brooke Davis, I was like, I want to talk to this person. So yeah, I don't know it. I think it's a I think it's a case by case thing. But if I get first name, last name, then like, yeah, look because I know that that's meant for me. But yeah, it's you know, Brooke is not my name. I feel like it would be really much harder to not think the name Peyton has to do it because it's so unique. Yeah, exactly, we live in a college town. There's like three colleges surrounding our house. And so there's this influx of young women who are all just discovering the show. And you know, the thing that we deal with all the time is that if someone is gonna binge One Tree Hill in their brain, you still look like you're twenty two years old. And we all know that I've leaned in hard to the gray hair and the grumpiness and like the farm attire and like a different visual. And so in the supermarket when a child comes up and it's like very confused because they're like, I hear your voice. That's what I get there, Like, I heard your voice and you sound like Payton from One Tree And I'm like, yeah, I ate her. She's buried in me. I'm the Dragon. What else? Ashley wants to know what future episode from any season that you remember? Are y all excited to see and talk about a state championship? I love the state championship. I don't remember that one state championship was fun. I'm really excited about Honey Grove. Oh, yeah, that'll be fun. I wore the shirt from that episode yesterday. Yeah, for Halloween, I wore that shirt Payton wears. I'm also really excited to come back at the top of season five, I of the time jump. I loved it. Yeah, I can't think of what's coming up. I don't know. It's all kind of blanked out. Eventually, it'll be fun to watch when Nathan gets kidnapped by the Russian mafia. But what about when Nathan was hot in the wheelchair with the long hair. You got to yell at pull it together? Extensions? Yeah, I just did he have extensions? I thought he actually grew his hair out. No, they gave him extensions. And remember because he was like, how do you guys do this? My heads? And we were all like, yes, welcome to hair and makeup. Speaking of hair and makeup, Hannah asks us, how long did it take to physically get ready for a scene? Hair, makeup, and wardrobe, et cetera. That's a good question, yeah, I mean standard practice for the gals is normally you're in two hours before call. So if we're expecting to be ready on set at seven am, we're usually in the makeup trailer by five am them because you have to give each artists their time, So like, come in with wet hair, they've got to dry it, give you a blowout, curl it and it it seems like a long time. But the reason that it's so time consuming is because everything has to match every day, like it has to look exactly the same. So it requires so much more time and effort than you would normally put in to just leave your house. And because you're you're in makeup and you're probably on on camera about you know, twelve to fourteen hours a day, that makeup really has to last. So it's like a big process every day, and you know, you're like drinking coffee, trying to eat eat your breakfast while people are putting stuff on your face, and you're reading lines with your co star in the next chair because you're doing ten pages a dialogue day. So it's like they like to give you enough time to have, you know, at least forty five minutes in hair, forty five minutes in makeup. Then you've got to be able to you know, you have to budget the time for even like walking from hair and makeup to where where your trailer is getting and then the trailer changing into your wardrobe, which can sometimes be really time consuming because things have to be like sewn on to you or they've got to stitch your microphone, like into your dress to hide it. There's there's all these things. You have a new costume that they have mended or altered, and then you get it and you put it on and something doesn't fit anymore, and so now they've got to figure out and there's always complications that come up, so they try to add a lot of extra time and just really pat it. Do you know how frustrating it is to be married to a male actor? It goes to work five minutes before crew call and just like walks onto set and doesn't have anybody with him. Like I have been on sets where hair and makeup is like, yeah, Jeff, we'll let us touch him. He just he just goes to set and just works. And I'm like, what are you talking about? Abby says, do you practice kissing scenes or do you just go for it? No? Practice? No? I mean I guess if there's like even if you're doing a love scene, it's a lot of choreography, but you don't sit there practicing kissing. No. Um, that's that's a that's a boundary thing. You know, you were required to fake romantic relationships on screen as as part of our jobs, but no at most what will happen is for camera. Um, when you're rehearsing and two people have to kiss, you know, you'll figure out the choreography like who walks up to who and when when does one actor put their arms around another actor? And then when it's the moment that they're supposed to kiss, what you'll do is just pass each other a little and put your faces cheek to cheek so that camera can see. You know, do we need to adjust to light to make sure both of these people are lit when their faces go together? Not? But no, you wouldn't. Has it ever happened to you? Has anybody ever kissed you on a blocking rehearsal somebody who maybe didn't know or I did have someone kiss me on a blocking rehearsal for a film I was working on, and I was so shocked. I was I was so stunned that I couldn't. I didn't And he's a lovely person and tell him and I will say, the scene is intense. And so we had a private rehearsal with the director and when I came to realize later in in kind of talking about the scene after this private rehearsal, when camera was lighting camera and the lighting crew were doing the room is you know. He was like, yeah, and you know, does that did that kind of feel like the right energy? I mean I didn't just want to, like, you know, do that in front of everybody for the first time, because it's like pretty aggressive. I don't like this person I have to play today. And I realized it was like in his brain he was like, I just wanted you to be prepared, and I was like, I just I could it would have told me, dude, But it was like I could just tell he was so nervous about it and he didn't want to make me uncomfortable in front of the whole crew, So in his mind he was like, well, I'm just gonna show you what I'm gonna do in this private rehearsal. But I was so stunned it happen, and I was like, oh uh okay, and yeah it was so genuine I know, but my god, it it really works. Right now. I'm sweating. I'm just like, oh my god. Yeah, it's um. It's always weird. Guys kissing people on cameras always uper weird. Have you ever had somebody kiss you in a bocket rehearsal? But only if I've been asked, like they're they're like, can I kiss you right now? Because we can just like I want to map this out a bit because we have to be moving around the room and you know, it's so I'm like, yeah, let's do it, and then that's fine. I don't I don't mind, but I do like to be asked not just pounds doohn? I mean in work? In real life that's a different story. But yeah, when we're working, well, definitely. There's also that weird thing of when you have to sit with someone who you have to kiss and be like, okay, where are our boundaries? Like you have to sit with the director and go how intense is the scene is supposed to be? Are we are we open mouth kissing? Are we faking it? Are we? Is this a peck? Is there? Like? Is this hot and heavy? Or they're supposed to be hands a moment and you, guys, it's like the least sexist, terribly awkward conversation to have in the world. You have to have it because you everyone has to know exactly what's expected of them, um, you know, for safety and comfort. But it is pretty weird. Well, this is kind of funny, who's your teenage and current celebrity crush or hall pass? So I guess, like who we'd want to do a kissing scene with. Jeffrey Dean knows who mine is and he's good with it. Um. I have had a thing for John Goodman my whole life. There is something about his booming boys and that like big boy stature and like the character actor in him that jeff knows he's like Goodman comes along, watch out, that's my guy. Oh my teenage crush was a teenage crush is definitely different than like a middle school crush in high school? Who sid I mean I had a crush on like Robert Downey Jr. And John Malkovich in high school. In't you rusty? Okay? That like of Mice and Men John Malkovich or like what what did you see him that you were like like this dangerous liaisons and yeah, of mice and Men. I was just so attracted to his talent. I was blown away by his ability. I mean, I'm really attracted to talent. So it's that was no brainer for me. Even though he's I can see how he's kind of like awkward. Yeah, Grant knows he Grant knows all of mine because like, you know, you sit around and you talk about all of your history with your your person um, what he loves. He just now he thinks it's like the funniest thing conversation. Somebody asked like, what does that mean? That goes around being like what's your sexual who was your sexual awakening? On TV? And I I love getting the like, especially from like all the cool young queer girls, being like brook Davis for sure, I'm like, thanks, guys. So I showed one of those to Grant recently and he was like, he was like, well, who were yours? And I was like, oh, hands down. When I was a kid, my parents were kind of like, well, we don't know what to make of our kid yet, because I was madly in love with Tom Selleck on Magnum p I, and I was also we're in love with Melissa as Ridge. Oh my god. I would just like walk around the house singing come to my window, and my parents were like, we don't know which way she's gonna go, but honestly, she has great taste. Do you remember that music video Sophia. I used to sneak that music video because we weren't ready to watch MTV. And I remember hiding in a backroom at my house just like so I was. I was staying up late, sneaking MTV to watch her and then watching reruns of Magnum p. I and my parents were just like, you just be whoever you want to be a kid, alright, the whole buffet, honey. And now now Grant trolls me in the in the cutest way because he knows how much I love her, and he just like forwards me to a leap of videos on Instagram. Just I love her so much, you guys, like I just I just think she's really amazing, so you know, but he's also like, this is cool and here we are mine. Yeah, it's great. It's good to know who your partner's crush was, too, because Jeff's really had Benatar. So when we got to be with her, I'm telling you, he was just like tell me everything. I mean, how she looked, like, how tall is she in real life? Did you guys like exchange anything? Okay, there's a picture that sounds good. I'll put that much. I love it. I love it sweet, Okay, man, who do we Oh, that's a good question. Enrique wants to know if you could bring one character from Dawson's Creek to One Tree Hill, who would it be and why? I think we're all going to say the same thing, Busy Phillips. I mean I was going to say, but the fact that they're best friends, can we get to do that's the thing? Can we have would be great, like as a human to have around, But Busiest character would have been just so fun to like, well, are just so funny? Like she is so so cool. It's funny. I think because we all know her, it's so easy to be like, well, we've never really hung out with Michelle and she's she would be cool to add to the full fan girl. Yeah, it's full fan girl. It's so embarrassing. Um. But yeah, like the one I know and the one I don't a thousand percent, I would love to get Busy in Michelle. Yeah, they're just so cool. I recently watched Blue Valentine again and just was like sobbing into my iPad um. While I was on location for this movie. I was just like, you know when you have that moment where you're like, I want to put on that record that makes me kind of sad. I just like had that moment where I was like, I wouldn't watch a sad movie feel some stuff, and man, I was just like, oh God, I forgot somebody makes me feel some shell makes me feel things. Um, but wait, are there any of the boys. We had James on show and he fits? He is so great? I mean from Dawson's Creek. You guys like kind of we did that? Oh my god, you're ready for God's True? Did we brought a character? Many? Oh? I like this question too. I like the sort of fantasy options for things we could have done on our show. Bre wants to know if one Trill was filmed in another city, which city would you want it to be? New Orleans? Oh? I was going to say New York. Yeah, I mean I like the I like the kind New Orleans would be a bighborhood vibe that our show had, walking around the blocks and stuff. I only say that because in our early twenties, I was in New Orleans all the time. Like the idea and like we both we all feel movies there and had such a time the idea of shooting a series there, God, we would have been We had so many more tattoos right now, I know that's the thing. You would have gotten in so much trouble. I think what I jumped out of me for some reason, just like thinking about my you know, my mom growing up in te Neck, like right over the George Washington Bridge in New Jersey. There are there are actually so many neighborhoods like around Manhattan that feel not dissimilar to the way Wilmington's felt on our show. And there is just something about like that scrappy East Coast energy that I love so much, And I think it just could have been so fun. Hillary. Imagine how much easier your commute would have been. You could have just driven over the bridge instead. I had to get on a plane every set. Listen, the commute helped me break up with my boyfriend at the time, so that was alright, alright, alright, it protected you to move states. That would have been fun. Though. Jackson Hole. Have you guys into Jackson Hall. It's so beautiful. It's just unbelievably beautiful. There's a huge young community there, and I mean it's definitely a mountain town. It would have been a ski show Southern but we would have been a ski show and there's like just so many young kids having dramatic lives in high school in Jackson Hole and they're skiing, and then their water skiing in the summer and they're hiking and it's like extreme sports and it's so beautiful. And then in the summertimes they work in all of the resorts and the hotels because there's a huge influx of tourists. Yeah, it would have been a good place. So basically it's like Trio meets the X Games. Well, I was mad. I was gonna say it sounds like White Lotus, Like our show just needs to go to a different resort everything. Oh my god, I love that show. I'm in fine. I mean, I guess that kind of answers Ali's question. She says, what other show do you think your character would fit well in? Want to send Brooke Davis on White Lotus? She was hilarious, perfect, that's great. Great, Yeah, Peyton, God, where would Peyton fit Probably on one of those like vampire shows or something. I feel like Peyton has exhausted all the bad things that can happen to a human in like mortal life. It's time for her to move on to something. I like that Supernatural where she's like God Damn, what I gotta do with werewolves? Honestly checks out so hard, so funny? Haven't I done enough that would actually be so funny? Where would Haley go? Would she go? What's that new? Um? Oh my god? There's a billboard for it on Sunset and I see it all the time. It's the big new country show. Isn't it an o monarch monarch? Like? Yeah? Joy, I think Hayley could have gone on to do like a truly like music music based show, don't you? Yeah? Yeah, absolutely I could see her doing that, see her just getting out there and taking over Nashville. Yeah, why not? Right? Yeah? But you want to be on Yellowstone? Joy's Like, I don't give a what Haley's deal is? Oh for sure? Well, I mean Haley. I guess Haley would end up on Dawson's or Felicity or something She's a very like, or like what was the one that was shot out in the mountains with Emily van camp The what was that? What was? Oh? Yeah? Ever would everywhere? Oh Everwood? I was like Revenge nor Hale. I'm she fits in those shows, But yes, I want to be on Yellowstone. Can imagine Haley and Yellowstone so good. Come on, guys, can we get speak good to each other? They need, you know, I need Kevin Costner to have a long lost daughter that his wife never told him about, so I could beat Beth's sister and then we can love hate each other. That feels fun. Yeah, that's my stone, that's my pitch. Wait, so Bailey wants to know what your guilty pleasure TV show is? Is that a guilty pleasure show? Or is it just your pure, pure pleasure show? Oh yeah, no, I just let I mean, there are times when I'm like, this is so silly, but I do love it still. But overall, no, it's really great. It's a beautiful show. It's so well done that it doesn't feel like a guilty pleasure to me is something that's like a little trashy or a little sappy, or a little over the top. I mean, you guys know mine like my Yellow Island. Yeah, the vortex I was sucked into during the pandemic was love Island, UK. I'm like the truly grant. I were trying to explain it to some friends and our girlfriend Sammy was like, the two of you who can give like dissertations explaining love Island. She was like, I want to do it as a TikTok series, and I was like, okay, Like whatever amuses you because I know it's ridiculous, but we're so in, like we're just in, and I can't. I never thought I would be there. I've never seen a Real Housewives. I've never like, I don't I don't know how to relate to any of these things, and now I'm like, oh, there it is. I do watch any of those um Making the Cut project Runway like whenever those area way back in the day, I just sort of fell off. I don't know, but that feels. I know they're hyped up and whatever because their reality shows, but like I do enjoy watching people's creativity, Like I love to watch a home renovation show. I don't consider that like a guilty pleasure. But like here I am. It's this year. I'm in reality TV. I don't know what to say about it. My husband loves Jeffrey loves he watches every single show and I hate TV. On in the bedroom, I hate it. And there is one show that he would wait for me because he knew I would pretend to read a book but really be watching and then Finally I had to admit I was super freaking into it. It was vander Pump Rules, It was all those little kids pretending to wait tables in Beverly. I was obsessed with them. I am so invested in their relationships. Listen, Jack's is a monster. Jack's is the Dan Scott of Beverly Hills, and I love it so much. And so he Yeah, he took to waiting for me, and I appreciated that. He never made me admit that I liked that buttaul so messy. They made me feel normal. Oh my god, I love it. I love it. Let's do Christina's. How did you spend your personal time when you were filming, like the off time, because there is a lot of sitting around. I wrote a lot, and I wrote music. I wrote scripts and songs and essays, and I would just sit and write all the time. And I also needed There was so much nitted. It's really all you. I had a pretty active social life in Wilmington's. I mean I was out every night with somebody doing something. I really it was important to me to go and make friends with people that we didn't work with, because when but like on set, what did you do sorry I keep talking about. I mean, come back to dating the A D staff, you know, because it was my boyfriend was there, my brother was there, you know, my boyfriend's dad was there, and like the whole family worked on the show, and so I would hang out with the whole family. I had a band with the sound department and the prop guys. But when I worked at MTV, it was like faux Paul to hang out with talent after work, like that's just who you worked with and then you went home and like you know, you had your other people, and we were trained not to do that. So when I got to Wilmington's, I was like, oh, I'm gonna go make friends with like the metal bands, with the improv kids, because that's what you're supposed to do, right um. And it wasn't until we started doing movies and stuff that I was like, oh, no, you can like hang out with your coworkers after work and that's okay too. It was just a training thing. It was different. Well that's so interesting. Yeah, I think like I was so entrenched in our little community. I think from going to camp and then also like being an only child, just having no idea about anything. I was like we're here, like, let's all hang, let's be best friends. And then it was really through like friends at work that I that I made my best like non cast crew friends in town, you know, like like through Jane and Tricky, I got to be friends with staff and like then Steff's whole crew downtown like you know, with you, i'd i'd meet people at level five Like but yeah, I don't know. I think I think I was always a little I mean I am I'm a little bit of an anxious person, Like I get nervous about outside, so I'm always we an indoor camp. I'm like, if we can be together and then move around together, It's like why I want to live on a commune. I'm like, we can just all be here and this would be great. Yeah. But Wilmington's was good for like rando things like there was the time when they were doing the Murder Mystery cruise on the paddle boat. We were like, yeah, we gotta do that. Ghost tours tours. I love a ghost tour. Fire Belly had Taco Nights. That was a big deal. Yeah, it was interesting to try to figure out, you know, how to balance because you're at you're at work like almost every hour you're awake, and then you know you want to be with people and build a relationship outside of work, But then there's also all your relationships at home that you're supposed to keep up with. So I always hear a little um. I always kind of felt like I was failing. I was either not seeing like my friends and family at home enough or I wasn't around for local stuff enough. And you know, still at this point in my life, I'm like, if they're could just be thirty five hours in a day, I could really nail it. I feel the same way. It's still constantly feel like I'm failing. Yeah, that's that's the feeling that like stays with me forever. So I don't know, Well, I'm gonna buy YouTube and trophies. Man, you guys, I'm getting participation trophies for both of you because I thought you guys were fine. No, I've actually like I've come to peace with it now.
