DMV Spotlight on Dec 14th, 2025 shines a light on a recent report on the DC area water supply by the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin. Executive Director, Michael Nardolilli explains while the risk of water shortages in the coming decade is low in the area (1% - 5%) he stresses the importance of locating new water sources in the event of extended drought, weather changes or even terror on the water system.
Director Nardolilli also notes that both DC and Arlington have zero water back up and only a one day supply whereas the rest of the region can tap from upstream reservoirs in an emergency.
