Courtney and Joshua Washington had preferences. Strong ones. And according to those preferences, they should have never ended up together. Courtney had made up her mind that she didn’t want Black children, so dating Black men wasn’t part of her plan. Joshua was equally certain about his own non-negotiable: he didn’t want to date a woman with children. Courtney had four. On paper, they were everything the other person said they didn’t want.
