Two years into the marriage and business, the relationship sours and disputes about finances become more frequent, turning violent. On December 10 during an argument, Dusty hit and choked Karen, threatening to kill her. Police were called and Dusty Spencer was arrested. Spencer called Karen from jail and told her he was going to "finish what he started" when he got out. Authorities were aware of the threat but no effective action was taken and Bail for Dusty Ray Spencer was just $5,000.
