Christa Pike's scheduled execution, aborted after failed attempt to deliver fatal drugs. Tennessee administered two doses of pentobarbital, but she did not die. Witnesses reported that she continued breathing and making snoring-like sounds long after the drugs were administered. She was eventually taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Subsequently reports says she is unconscious, on a ventilator, and in critical condition, with injuries to her arms associated with the attempted execution. The state's remaining execution for 2026 and has been halted.
