The Marine Corps has a saying: the more you sweat in peacetime, the less you bleed in wartime. It applies just as much to faith as it does to combat.
In this episode of “Courageous Christianity with Richard Mendelow,” host Colonel Richard J. Mendelow (Ret) and his wingman Christy Mendelow continued the Threats to Christianity series with guest Jeff Egli—airline captain, rancher, and a man who understands the connection between hard work, struggle, and character. Together they took on a threat that doesn’t announce itself the way persecution or opinion does. It’s quieter than that. It’s comfort.
Life is good. Church is an hour on Sunday. There are donuts, there’s coffee, and it’s easy to mistake that rhythm for the fullness of what faith is supposed to be. But Scripture is clear: our faith is either living and growing, or it’s dying. There is no still water. Like gold refined in fire, our faith is proven pure through struggle, not the absence of it. Romans 5 says suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, and character produces hope—not comfort.
Find out why comfort might be one of the most dangerous places a Christian can sit still. Available now at CourageousChristianity.today and wherever you get your podcasts.
