Tweed Shire Council is appealing for information after a series of mature trees were deliberately cut down and poisoned on public land across the region. Norfolk pines at Cabarita Beach and gum trees at Tweed Heads Lawn Cemetery are among those damaged in recent months.
I spoke with Tweed Shire Council's Manager of Sustainability and Environment, Jane Lofthouse, about the impact on local wildlife, the penalties for vegetation vandalism and why protecting community green spaces is so important.
