The Country Women's Association of New South Wales has voted to advocate for national law reform that would give children the same legal protection from physical assault as adults.
The motion, put forward by the Bangalow branch and passed at the CWA's 104th Annual General Meeting, calls on the NSW Government to lead efforts to remove legal exemptions that allow physical punishment of children in the home.
We speak with Bangalow branch member Zoe Tuckwell about the motivation behind the proposal, the research linking physical punishment and domestic violence, and what happens next as the CWA begins advocating for change.
