The Warmer for the Welcome to the lovely Las Vegas for us seeps with myself Craig Hep Speederson now part of the VS and Family podcast. We've gotten excellent podcasts for us. We're gonna be joining in segment number two by one of our good friends, Blake Lovell. He does a great job over at Southeastern sixteen taking a look at this great game of college basketball. We're gonna ask him about the SEC teams that are remaining in the sweet sixteen. We could legitimately have a all SEC final four. A little bit hard to be able to get quite that, but we'll get his thoughts on what we've seen in the NCAA tournament thus far. We'll ask him about when he's all noticed with regards to these SEC teams, and certainly do have to talk about the fact that Sean Miller is going to be heading on over to Texas as well.
So we've got a lot to chat about it.
Well.
He will do so in segment number two.

Now let's say go look at everything that we saw in college basketball Monday, not just with those three games, but on the coaching front as well, try to find the trends and try to get to know these teams a little bit better.
Games for yesterday is Greig buzzing about. Here is the rowdy recap.
Two hunderdogs in a favorite we're able to reign Supreme and the CBI on Monday. As it starts off early on with the Word in Karna Word getting in eighty seven to seventy one win over the Jacksonville Dolphins. For Jacksonville they won the rebound battle thirty eight to twenty nine, but for incarter Ward they go eight of twenty from three points and Cardi Ward also wins a turner battle eighteen to eleven. That has been a big un doing for this Jacksonville team all season long. And for the Word trio of different guys Jalen Anderson, Daveon Bailey, Jordan Pike, Alliyball put in their twenty plus points with Bailey lean the way of twenty three points, so they were able to find a way to persevere get the job done. Florida Golf Coast no cover, but they do get the wins sixty eight to sixty five. As for Army, they were able to put together a nice charge in the second half. They won that second half after they got down quite early. But that's on Florida Golf Coast. They're able to hold on as Army was able to shoot thirty six percent for three points. They do go as a team nine of twenty five from the outside. But for Floria Golf Coast, just a little bit too much daily on Johnson sixteen points from him and Michael Duax, who's been a little bit of disappointment for them, sixteen points did fell out, but forces six rebounds. That's exactly what the doctor ordered there. And then the favorite that was able to get the job done. This has been one of more profitable teams in all of college basketball this season. By the way, that would be our good friends in Cleveland State. As Cleveland State right now against the spread, one of the best marks that you're going to find. How about eighteen at thirteen and one against the spread this far this season and they conn win in an easy cover over Queens and see this by account of eighty eight to seventy three as taj Sevoski Eves is able to give the team twenty nine points, goes four to seven from three Cleveland State. I believe that they went nine their first eleven from the floor. They shot sixty percent over on Queensland C twenty three and forty five from the floor, but they lost the turner battle fifteen to thirteen. They lose a rebound battle thirty one to twenty one as well. Some a little bit less and tremendous out there, and we did see a lot of coaching moves with regards to everything that happened on Monday as well. We'll talk about this a little bit more with Bake Lovell, and this is one that's pretty much from Sunday. But Sean Miller, he is going to be the next head coach over at Texas. Texas moves on from Rodney Terry after he was able to get the team to the Elite eight two seasons ago. As we know with Miller, it spent a little bit of an interesting ride for him. He was relieved of his duties over at Air Arizona a few seasons ago amid the don't pay for play scandal that I mean in the same age would have been much more acceptable. And the Texas program has been looking for really some stability ever since the Chris beards suspension in twenty twenty two, but had said, I do think that this could be.
A pretty rock solid fit for Miller.
He's gonna have h expectations on him as this is a Texas fan base that they are very much looking to be able to build themselves up. So that is going to be very interesting to see what is going to be happening out there. UNLV also got their guy. It looked like they were going to be going with Brian Hodgson. You'll find out in a minute or two that he landed elsewhere, but they hi on Josh Passner. Passner, I've been working the last year or two as an analyst. He was on ESPN and always did a rock solid job, and I really feel like he got a raw deal when he was over at Memphis. I felt like he did better than a lot of the fan base wants to give him credit for, because right now they've got Penny Hardaway, who's achieved lesson needed when he was over at Memphis, and yet he has gotten to pass a little bit of that is because he's a legend out there in the city of Memphis. Far his actual play, But I I feel like Josh Pastor did a solid job when he was at Georgia Tech. Not a guy that's probably gonna be taking a team to a Final four or anything like that, but rock solid coach. As we know, he's got some West Coast ties played over at Arizona, so UNLB, they get their guy. It just was not working under Kevin Krueger. So I do feel like this is a step in the right direction for them out there in the Mountain West. This one was a little bit of a surprise if you take a look at the rank that he was at, But if you take a look at the city, this is no surprise at all. Mike Bibby, who we all remember what he was able to do with the Sacramento Kings, he is now going to be coaching up Sacramento State. And if you have not kept up with Mike Bibby ever since his playing days, this guy has gotten absolutely jecked. I am very intrigued to see what is going to be happening, to say the least with him. Certainly a guy that knows ball, and if they need some help in the weight room, he's certainly gonna be able to help out there. But in this day and age of nil in this same and age of being able to have a little bit of a name. I think that this is a very good hire for Sacramento State. Sacramento State has been through a few tough years, so I do think that that'll be able to help them out. And then I like this one as well.
Florida.
The Harrier on Brian Hodge s and he had been coaching up the last two seasons at Arkansas State. Was part of that Alabama core with Natos a few seasons ago as well, had great success with Arkansas State. They were a strong team defensively left a little bit of something to be desired in terms a three point shooting, but as a guy that is going to have a high octane style as we know with a mir abduor Raheem passing away. For South Florida, they were going through the interim coaching regime this season. Just something that you don't wish upon any program. You wish for good things for South Florida. I think that they have done a good job to be able to get this one right, So a kudos to them, and I feel like that's a pretty rock solid hire. This was a little bit of a smaller affair but one of the Florida assistants, Kevin Hovedy, Hopefully I got that correct. He is going to be the next coach over at Columbia's Columbia they decided part ways.
With Jim Ingles.
It just was not going well for Jim Ingles and company as he took over after the I believe it was twenty fifteen to sixteen season, because you may recall Columbia back when they were under the tutelage of Kyle Smith and before nerd ball really became a thing, saying they were able to get a twenty five wins season, but Frangles, it just never really happened from over at Columbia since speakning of the twenty sixteen seventeen season, seventy one and fifty looked like this year was going to be different when they knock off Villanova, but he never had a single winning season. His best record was thirteen and fourteen, So very much rough, to say the least for Columbia. He's gonna have a shall we say, work cut out from to.
Say the least.
But I do think that this is going to be a solid higher as you've had hed do a really good job of being able to just uplift this Florida team. Florida won the most shall we say, well rounded team in all of college basketball this season. He is going to be remaining with Florida throughout the entirety of the NCAA Tournament, so that's going to be big for them. And then that's one I think is really the biggest hire that we saw on Monday. I mean, my goodness, the fact that Drake's Ben McComb is going to be heading on over to Iowa.
You want to talk about a shift in just tempos Iowa.
As we know when they were under the Tutela Jeffrey McCaffrey won the fastest teams at all of college basketball, all offense, no defense whatsoever. And then Drake's McCollum, he was just able to do such a great job of just being able to pound nails for the team. His teams going all the way back to when he was at the Division two level have won a conference title in every year since the twenty fourteen seasons. So this guy has been an ultimate grinder. Did such great work at the Division two level back when he was over at Northwest Missouri State, when he was over at Northwest Missouri State.
By the way, he won.
Three to ninety four ninety one in his first year in the Missouri Valley Conference. Drake wins a regular season title, they win the tournament title, they win a game in the NCAA Tournament, Like this guy knows what that he's doing.
Is Drake team?
In terms of total possessions per game, they were in the bottom five in all of college basketball if you look at possessions per forty minutes because they played a few overtime games, they were.
The slowest team in all of college basketball.
So if you're a fan of Iowa over as well, this is a rough day for you. But if you're a fan of Iowa basketball, should be feeling very good about that. And then gotras sate very unfortunate. What happened to them against Maryland. Was it a travel? Probably? Are they gonna call all that in that spot? Probably not. If I'm just calling a spadas bade here, I know that there's been a lot of controversy there. So if you're calling it a travel, I don't think that you're wrong. If you're saying that they don't make that call in that spot, you're also not wrong. So That's the way that I'm gonna put it there. We're not going to dive into any sort of controversy and blow up social media or anything like that.
I'm just gonna call this bade, this bade.
But that said, for a Nico medved he now becomes the coach over at Minnesota. If I'm not mistaken, he began his career over at Minnesota as both a player and I think that he might have been like your graduating assistant. He has some very big ties to the go and go for his program, and under Ben Johnson, they just could never really have a lot of depth on that team. For Minnesota. Always felt like they were playing hard. They had Dawson Garcia over the last few seasons, but could never really bust through a Nico medvit, I am the coaching job that he did for colrad of State this season. Colorado State had a relatively rough start to the season. If I'm calling it what it is like. They lose three straight games, so Ole Miss Witch and the ole Miss lost very understandable. But at OMUC riverside they've lost that game to Washington. I think I'll at one point this year they were either five and five or six and five. They had lost a game to Colorado by seventeen points, and then all of a sudden they were able to pick up steam. They had won eleven straight games prior to that loss at the Buzzer against Maryland probably won of the most improved teams in all of college basketball. Guy, just such a tremendous job would be able to get more out of less year in and year out. Did that this year? Overright, Coyra, I've seen this is an eight plus higher for Minnesota. And I really if you take a look at the Highers that we have seen in general here in the Big Ten, there is no way that you can have any qualms about what Indiana did. I think that Darren de Reeves is going to be roxelid obrad Indiana. I think that Medved is gonna have great success at Minnesota. I would say Ayowa got the best out of the Highers, just because I think that highly of Ben McCollum. But I in all three of those programs, I felt like got much much better at the coaching position. So that's what we saw in college basketball on Monday. With regards to the games out there on the court and with regards to the coaching moves as well.
I'm not gonna go through the transfer portal as much right now. I'll go through that a little bit more in the offseason.
Because we had five hundred guys entering their name on Monday, I think that this podcast will probably be better served giving you guys who's not in the transfer portal rather than who is in the transfer portal. You can tell that I say that jokingly, but I really don't say that very jokingly because last year we had darn near two thousand guys enter into the transfer portal. Quite literally, about as many guys didn't enter in the transfer portal as did enter into the transfer portal.
So I mean, we're just in wait and c mode right now.
We're gonna give you guys a little bit more in the coming weeks as things begin to trickle out, and I'll have my off season thoughts. I always do podcasts in the offseason for every single conference, so don't worry that we'll be tied up. But I mean, if I were to try to go through every single transfer portal move, we will be here for about five hours a day, every single day on this podcast, and we're gonna make it a little bit more condensed. Because you guys want to pick, you guys want winners. We still have actual games to be at out there on the court. So that's the stance of this podcast, and the stands of this podcast is always to get great guest support like Blake Blobbo who joins me next ready onclus because with myself thinking Peter and now the Visa Family Podcasts. Now for the Visa Family Podcast. Always great to be joined by this man, as we've got Blake levellboard. He does a tremendous job over at Southeastern sixteen. Take it a look at this great game that we all know in love of college basketball. I know he has done such an incredible job of being able to decipher what we're all getting out there in the SEC and so much more be able to catch them as well. Over at the Clutch Points Sports app along with Southeastern sixteen and you're able to follow on Twitter side sticks at the Blake level. Last name it's spelled l O v e LLL and Blake. It's always great to get you a board. Thank you, thanks as always for having me, Greg, thank you for joining me, Blake and Blake. It has been a very interesting first few rounds of the NCAA Tournament, but I know that there's a lot of people that are complaining about how chalky it is. What were your takeaways from the first week of the NCAA Tournament, Because I feel like the SEC.
Overall showed out well, no doubt about it.
It was a little bit rough in the first round, and I had people trying to tell me that the Big Ten was best conference in all of college basketball because they had a good first round of the NCLBA Tournament.
That faded into the abusiness very quickly.
That's why you don't utilize eight games sample sizes to determine that you utilize, Oh, I don't know all sixteen SEC teams being able to win ten plus games in the non conference said, that's at aside, But that's what were some of your overall takeaways, because I do feel like this is just really what we've seen all season long into college basketball.
Like you said, I think there was always going to be overreaction, especially to you know, either the SEC or the Big Ten for various reasons. Because the SEC got fourteen in it's like, what is your expectation should they get ten twelve, you know in the sweet sixteen? I don't think that's realistic. And so, you know, the teams that were pretty much supposed to lose kind of lost, except for I guess Missouri was the only one that really was, you know, kind of a team that you expected maybe to win from a seating standpoint, you know, other than the eight nine games, which you know, we always say those are pretty much craft shoots sometimes, but I think, you know, we had the Arkansas upset a couple of those that kind of makes up for it. So I think for the SEC to gets seven teams in the sweet sixteen, which of course isn't ncaa tournament record. I've had people say, well, they had fourteen to start with. That's not really the point here, is it. The fact is, when you look at it overall, we said, coming to this tournament, you go beyond the sec We were like, look at how good historically these number one seeds are with Auburn and Duke in Houston and Florida. You know, everyone was kind of pointing out the kin Palm rankings and all that, and it kind of showed us that these top tier teams, if there was going to be you know, madness in the first couple of rounds, it just seemed like it was going to be a hard thing to see with these teams in particular. Not to say that, you know, a team like Florida getting a Yukon or something like that like that, that's a pretty unique scenario when you're playing the defending back to back national champions and all the pressure is on you and they're the number eight seed, and so you had some stuff like that. You know, we had close games and such. But I always say, you know, this is a survive and advanced tournament for reason. And I think a lot of that has to do with the first two rounds. If you just are able to get by those first two rounds, how many times have we seen it? Greg? These teams that are left, which there are so many, as we mentioned was that sixteen has made up of four different conferences.
That's the lowest ever.
These are the teams that have kind of shown us all year long that whenever they decide to flex, they can flex. I think it's going to be interesting to see after this little reset here for several days, do we see these top seeds perhaps look even better, even though the competition may be getting a little tougher.
And this is just very weird coming out of my mouth.
Out of all the teams remaining in the sweet sixteen, the lowest seeded team is coached by John Callo perryot is Arkansas.
Something that I did not think that I would be saying twelve months ago. But what have you seen on them?
Because there's really, you know, cinderell and if you're trying to parse through one, and I'm not here to call Arkansas a Cinderelli here, but it's about as close as one as you're gonna get to it.
Because they had that topsy turvy.
Start to the season, things were less than savory, but all of a sudden they've been able to peak late. And this has been John cal Perry to a tee ever since he joined the SEC with Kentucky, and I think it's gonna be very interesting to see what we get in that Sweet sixteen matchup.
The story with Arkansas all season long.
You know, it started from legitimately, like day one, it was just injuries and you're like, all right, well, this was a team that didn't have a lot of depth. People were kind of picking on cal for not filling another space or two on the roster. And then it's like, well, you start the season with injuries and what do you do? And it was like that was the story for so much of the year. It seemed like even guys who were playing didn't feel like, you know, there were a couple of guys at full strength, and then of course Boogey Flann goes out for the year. Thero hasn't played in a bit. I mean, you just had guys's bouncing back and forth. But now it's like we're looking at the possibility of them getting a new theo back this week. They will be at full strength for the first time seemingly this season in terms of like their overall team, where it seems like everybody is finally on that, you know, same page of being like, hey, we're good to go. Maybe not everybody's one hundred percent at this point in the season, but that is a scary thought, I think for everybody else because remember, Greg, we've had this conversation. Come into the season, Arkansas was a top three team in the SEC from a talent standpoint. There was really never any question about that if you just look at their roster, like they're built like a top three team in the league. Now, it didn't plan out that way. They got off to the oh to five start for the reasons we mentioned. The offense was struggling, they had injuries, you know, chemistry just didn't seem to be there. But now you look at the way they're playing. I mean, they're playing their best basketball the season and have been doing so really all the way since mid February, even in some games they lost. They had the one game at South Carolina just made you sort of scratch your head a little bit. But outside of that, they've been really, really good, and I think one of the reasons for that is their defense, which has not gotten enough credit this year. We've all been on them about the offense of times, but their defense has really been the story. I mean, they have been really good on that side of the court. And now I think when you got Jonas they do playing really well. You know again, I think you've got Trevor Brazil playing well, the freshman for stepping up, giving the big minutes between Billy Richmond and Carter Knox, and I just think that's the story of Arkansas is finally it's all kind of come together and they may be getting the guy that was kind of the driving force of this team this season, induce zero back this week. I think they're a very sneaky team here the rest of the way because it hasn't just been Hey, they've played good for a couple of games. They've been playing well for about a month now.
They certainly have been and I really ever since that game, ironically enough against Kentucky, because they were really hitting.
The skid prior to that.
That game it just felt like was a big giant confidence booster because there were it's not just John Calipari. They came over from Kentucky, it's a lot of these guys that he was coaching up a season ago. They went over there, got the job done on that front. That one I thought was just absolutely massive for their confidence. And now here they are is Levell who does such great workover at Southeastern sixteen.
He's John and miancos Coast.
Seems we have to address this game as well, because we were gonna have SEC on SEC crime later on in the week, as we do have that Tennessee versus Kentucky game. I rockily enough was just talking about Kentucky and how do you break this one down? Because with Tennessee they are the team as a favorite in this game, but in both of the games that these two teams played, Tennessee loss. Now Kentucky is currently without Jackson Robinson. They've been with their career Crisa for seemingly all of SEC play. But how do you break down a game where Tennessee they don't just have a revenge on the mind, they've got double revenge on the mind.
Yeah, I mean, and that's the thing, right you mentioned there's no Jackson Robinson, you know, for this game. And if you kind of look back at the two games, these two teams have played. It's been interesting because you know, Kentucky didn't have Robinson the second time, but they did have Lamont Butler, and of course they won in Lexington. They had Jackson Robinson the first time, didn't have Lamont Butler, and they won in Knoxville. And so it's like Kentucky, I feel like, comes into this game with a lot of confidence knowing that our we've been able to do this even though you know, we know Robinson's out for the season, haven't had Kirk Cries in a while, but we know our guy, Lama Butler is on the floor and we've beaten the seam with him on the floor. And clearly, I think Greg the biggest difference in Kentucky to me where they are now, even you know, when they were doing what they did to Tennessee, maybe even the second time around. They're still defensively, I think, playing just some fantastic basketball in the defensive end of the floor. And I know people say, well, they give up ninety nine to Alabama, ninety four to Auburn, ninety six to Alabama, all within a stretch of like three weeks. You know, at the end of the conference tournament that was kind of your range there. But if you look at the way they defended against Illinois, I thought that was one of their, if not their best defensive game given the level of opponent this season, because they were just completely locked in on the defensive end of the floor. And I think, you know, when you look at how far this team has come on that end, I mean, at one point they were went in the mid one hundred fifteen something like that in Kim Palm and defensive efficiency. Right now they say that at forty five, and they have again kind of been able to turn this thing around. They'd have been the three so well, which, of course Butler plays a big role in that. Of course, otego Oway does two. I think to me, that's this part of the game where I don't expect Kentucky to be as good as Tennessee on the defensive end, But do I think Kentucky can be better offensively to the point to where they can win this game. Yeah? Because the wild stat Greg and I feel like we talked about this this season. Tennessee is third in the country in three point field goal defense. They're allowing teams to shoot twenty eight point three percent in each of the two meetings they've played Kentucky, Kentucky has gone twelve to twenty four. Kentucky is twenty four of forty eight from three against one of the best three point perimeter defensive teams in the country. I don't know if that can happen again, And so if you're looking at it from that standpoint, if you play the probabilities, I don't know that Kentucky's going to shoot that well again. But can they have more of an offensive sort of balance here than maybe Tennessee, who we've still seen despite them playing really well offensively at times, they still have those stretches where they go without scoring. Are they going to have a few of those in this game? Especially with the way Kentucky played defensively. It is just such a fascinating matchup, especially given the fact that we've seen these two teams play already and we know it's at Steck here, So yeah, what else? What else could he ask for? If you're an SEC fan or college basketball fan watching these two teams go at it for a third.
Time, Oh, this is going to be such a fun one.
And Blake, we know that one of those teams is going to be going to the Elite eight and one of them is going to be going home. And there's a lot of speculation about this NCAA tournament right now in two different respects. Could we get all for one seeds into the final four or could we get four SEC teams into the final four as well? I'll pose you the question. I know that on v SIN today, I know that a few of our hosts have done the exact same thing. Which do you think is more likely for one seeds in the final four or four SEC teams in the final four?
Yeah, I still think it's the four to one seeds. And I think it's just when we look at these teams and look, I mean to me, you know, I picked Duke as the national champion just because I thought Duke had the best path to get there of the one seeds, but yet I still had all the one seats getting there. And I think it's because again, you look at how good they've been all season, and I know there's some things you can pick apart, especially with the two SEC teams Duke in Houston, there's really not much to pick apart with the way they've been playing. There's really not at this point. But you know, with Florida. I mean, Florida's a team. Like I said, I thought that perhaps and we'll see how it plays out from here. I thought Florida's toughest matchup in this tournament heading into the final four potentially would be their second game against Ukon. It seemed like that played out that way. I mean, you're looking up the team missus twelve free throws. That's the one thing I pointed out about Florida that do not like is that they're not a great free throw shooting team. Their average too below average, and that was a very below average performance where they win by two or whatever, and you know, miss twelve free throws, and so I just thought that was something that can still kind of look up. But we know, Greg, I mean, they've been playing as well as anybody in the country over the past a little bit, and I do think this reset here maybe helps Florida out a little bit going up against the Maryland team. As you know, they don't have the same kind of depth. And I think Florida's offensive rebounding could be a problem just in the terms of getting offensive rebound getting fouls off of those, which tends to happen when you get those kind of scenarios playing out, So I think it sets up well for Florida, and then with Auburn. I look at Auburn and I feel like, again, it's kind of that same thing. You know, you've got coaches and players calling out the team after the first round game against the number sixteen seed. Rarely have we ever seen that for a number one overall seed. But that's exactly what happened. And then you get down to at halftime against Creyton and you're saying, all right, this is your entire season on the line right here, and what did Auburn do. Auburn looked like the vintage Auburn. They looked like the team that was twenty seven to two at one point, you know, three weeks ago. And so if they can kind of use this little break here for several days to kind of take that confidence, take it into this game against Michigan and beyond, I just think they metch up very well with Michigan State oral mess who they've already beaten three times. So I'm going to go with the scenario of the one seeds getting there. I think they've all been that good this season because what I like to see the All SEC final four, of course I would Greg, but I do think that there's a better chance of getting the one seeds there.
Yep, I do think so as well, especially with just a juggernaut that Duke has been all season long, and just always do have my question marks with Alabama as well and that overall style for them, But certainly looked very good against Saint Mary's over the weekend. As our good friend Blake Levelo does great workover at Southeastern sixteen is joining me on cos cost soups and I know you mentioned it. You have Duke winning the whole thing. What do you think could be able to stop Duke from winning a national championship?
Because I feel like if.
They are the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament, without question, Duke has been that most dominant team thus far. Houston had a little bit of a tough game against gonzeg which out of all the verse one versus eight slash nine seats, that was by far the most difficult ones Auburn. They look very good in the second half against Creighton, but you mentioned it had a little bit of a slip up against Alabama State as well, So I just want to pose a question to you, what weaknesses, if any, do you find would Duke right now? Because I really feel like we're nitpicking to try to be able to pick out any start of weakness with this team.
Yeah, there's just not much, is there. And I think that's where when you're looking ahead, it's like, to me, that's where I think it gets interesting because here's my thought pattern on this greg because we know we're getting BYU in Alabama, and I keep thinking, Man, I feel like this is a tough matchup for Alabama because they have not been flawless by any means in their first two games. Had a close call against Robert Morris in round one, you know, played a different type style that you're just not going to see all the time in Saint Mary's in round two. Ultimately won that game by fourteen. But you know, I just wonder how they defend in a game like this. I mean, you know, how good BYU is offensively, how well they shoot it? And we say, to beat Alabama, you've either got to do one of two things. You got to have an old miss type defensive performance that the Rebels had in Tuscal Loose earlier in this season, or you've got to be able to outscore them, and I think, you know, BYU is a team that can outscore them. I don't know they're going to have an old Miss type defensive performance, but they're good enough to put up points. And we've seen that, you know, so many times with BYU for this past year. Because sure we can look at the game like against Houston in the Big Twelve Tournament and all that, like, Alabama's not Houston defensively, Let's call it what it is. They're better than they were last year way because I think, you know, Big Cliff and Modiabata they have a lot to do with that, with just their size and the way they affect the game. But you know, I keep thinking, all right, BYU may be a tough matchup for Alabama, But then I'm like, well, who's the tougher matchup for Duke? I still think Alabama is the tougher matchup for Duke because you do have a team like that where if you're gonna beat Duke, you've got to be able to score some points, even though it's not gonna be easy going up against you know what is the you know, the number one team in the country in effetive field goal percentage defense. They just defended so well as we know. But you know, Alabama is a different beast. They're not a team you're going to see every night in the ACC this season. It is something that offers a little bit of a contrast with that because Duke's gonna score their points in a different way than Alabama's going to score theirs. That's my kind of thing I'm wrestling with here. I'm like, Okay, I feel decent about Duke advancing to the Elite eight, but I almost think Alabama is the worst matchup for him. But I almost wonder is by you're gonna beat Alabama? So it is kind of a fascinating setup. But like you said, there's just not a lot to pick on when it comes to Duke right now.
Yeah, it's so interesting, And I do think that you bring up such a good point with the Alabama They might be the most vulnerable team remaining in the NCAA Tournament, but when they're hitting, they might be the most dangerous team as well. That's just what that style does for you. So that is going to be a lot of fun to see how that plays out. And Blake, We're certainly looking at things on the court, but do want to just wrap up with a piece off the court as well, because we're going to be doing a lot this during the offseason as well, and for the SEC not a lot of coaching searches are going to be add but we did have one with Texas and I have up very quickly. Rodney Terry was relieved of his Zooties over the weekend. John Miller, I believe that forty five minutes passed before he was hired on as coach.
He is now there.
Man, how do you take a look at things with Texas, because I'm not surprised by the move. I feel like they were in between a rock and a hard place with the Chris Beard situation, having Rodney Terry lead the team to the Elite EID and now it's all on Sean Miller, who he was solid at Arizona, never really got them to the promised lane, but always did our pretty rock solid job.
Yeah, if you're looking at the pool of candidates that was available, probably I mean, to me, this is one of the best hires you could have made, because, like you said, I think people look at the way things ended at Arizona and there will be, you know, certain reasons to look at that and be like, Okay, well that wasn't what we thought it would be after what a great starready had and throughout this entire run there really, like you said, was never able to really break through get them to you know, the final four. But still, if you're Texas and you're looking up and saying, all right, we finished fourteenth in the SEC this season. It's a league that just got fourteen teams in. We were the last team to get in, and we're looking up and seeing those other thirteen programs right now, and we're thinking, all right, what do we have to do to be competitive? If we know that, you know, sure teams are going to go up and down the standings every year or whatever, but if we know that's what we're working against is what we just saw this season in the SEC, which it's not. You know, this is such a unique thing and the SEC is not gonna get fourteen teams in every year. But you got to go out and find somebody who has NC doublea tournament pedigree, someone who can regularly get your team to the NC DOUBLEA tournament. And I think if you look back at his overall body of work. Right, what's he's got four or five Elite aids something like that, been to the Sweet sixteen multiple times beyond that, I know again the way it ended and everything there, But you're talking about a guy that's had multiple thirty one seasons. Look what he did at Xavier, you know, got them to the Sweet sixteen in his first year there a couple of years ago, got them back to the tournament this year.
It is wild, right.
I feel like Sean Miller's entire coaching tenure Texas has always come up in terms of either Okay, some people thought he would get the job. You think about getting to the Sweet sixteen, they lose to Texas there, you know, several years ago, and they played Texas again this year, Like it just was meant to be for Sean Miller. He's always been tied to Texas, it seems. I think it was a great hire. I think he's going to go win games there because we know too, Greg. If there's one thing we do know about the Longhorns, they have money to spend. In this day and age, let's call it what it is. If you have money to spend, you have a chance to be very successful and if you don't, then you are playing from behind the eight ball, so to speak, and Texas has never been that way. They have the resources to make this a winning program that can be in the top ten every single year. We saw what was happening when Chris Beard was there. I think this is kind of another different chapter for Texas basketball to where I fully expect Sean Miller probably by next year to have them looking like, you know, a top fifteen to top twenty team again and competing for SEC championships not long down the road.
It is going to be a lot of fun to see what we get out of them. It is going to be an exciting next season in the SEC. But as we know, work it has not done yet. Because the Sweet sixteen is going down. We could see all four teams in the final four, the SEC teams and Blake, you've been here every step of the way, doing a tremendous job covering this conference. We'll love the good people at home. No, it's all on to for you and how people can fall on on social media at other platforms.

Time, but not here, it is time for a sign in total on every game on today's betting board bank shots.
Do note that, as per usual, any changes that are made to these plays, we'll be listened up on my Twitter slash xsveed at get underscore eighty one. Very simple to be able to go in Las Vegas rotation order. As we got the two on it games, then we got the two CBI games. So as of the time of this recording, currently we don't have any numbers up with regards of CBI games. So I'll just give you guys my indicap and we will go from there. This starts with six O nine six cent on the card. Bradley and chedd Nouga are doing battle out there from Bradley out there in Illinois and Bradley a three and a half point favorite total on skame between one fifty and a half at one fifty two and I'm all delayed with Bradley. I did set them as a favorite of four and a half points. So Bradley dealing with a few injuries for one and two, they are dealing with the opt out of Zeke Montgomery. So this is a backcourt that is very much, how we say, hampered in this ordeal. But you've still have been able to have a lot of guys that have been able to do some great production for this team. Duke team, he's still out there shooting thirty nine a half or seven for three, has made to supply the team with roth of Forress thirteen and a half points per game, and he really is a hard and soul of this team, and he should be able to control things down low with a U met Seianovich who's been able to give you overall for the season right around five and a half points four and a half rebounds per game. I recognize that it's not an amazing about a production. But at the same time, too, this is a Chattanooga team that just does not have a lot down low. They don't have a single guy that gives you North a five rebounds pream and ultimately I do think that the defense is going to be the undoing of Chattanooga. They ranked two hundred and seventy fourth in the country in terms of the opponents three point shooting percent, and now they have to go up against a Bradley team that at home they're shooting north of forty percent from three, and overall for the season they've been number two in all of college basketball. The Guts are three point shooting percent. Chantanooga not a nessary, a fast team, not necessary, a slow team very much, a mid tempo bunch, but they are a team that they really look to get rhythm threes. And now they go up against the Bradley team that overall they've been ninetieth in the country. An opponent's three point shooting PERCENTAGET thirty two point four percent certainly going to be put the test here because this is a chen neog team that got to love the back court that they've got both of these guys Fallow dan Earl from VAM Andrey Bonham along with Hunter Huff. These two guys north of twenty nine points per contest, and between the two of them you do get north of five assists per game. You've had Bottom shoot about thirty four percent from three this year, Huff more than forty two percent from three points, so he's been half fim puffing and blown down a bunch of threes for Chattanooga to their credit, very good team at being able to protect the ball and doing the little things, shooting north of seventy seven percent at the free flyne that is indeed a top fifty mark in all of college basketball, but they only turned the ball for about ten a half times per contests, and they do a nice job of having their three point shooting set up their two point shooting, as they've also been a top twenty team with regards to two point shooting percent as well, but the Castle three point shooting defense has been an issue. This team is not really genering a lot of second chances outside the top three twenty in terms of percent of their minds shows and result in an offensive rebound. Despite Bradley having Zeke Montgomery opt out, it does feel like it's going to be a career ending injury for Darius Hanna as well. You hate to see that for them. But even with that, Christian Davis continue to shoot north of forty percent from three. It's paying the team with a lot of production against the Chattanooga team has been well side the top two twenty five turns points a lot on a purpossession basis. Do you think that you get to yourself in nice, high scoring xpos a lot of efficiency and Bradley to get the job done. I said, Bradley is four and a half point favorite. One delay the number in maybe my total one to fifty two and a half.
So I'm in on that over.
And then six eleven six twelve on the card is North Texas on the road against Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State a one to one half point favorite. Tonals game as as Love is the one thirty seven a half as high as a one thirty nine and a half. I did so my total one forty and a half. I'm gonna be looking at the over of North Texas. I made them the two and a half point favorite. I'm gonna buy pass points. I'm gonna be taking them on the money line. This is an Oklahoma State team that underceive loss. They've really been looking to push tempo, and they haven't had quite the resources to be able to do so in the Big Twelve, just because when you're in the Big Twelve, it's so difficult to be playing against a lot of those teams in conference. But here in the NIT they've been able to get a lot more going, scoring north of eighty points over the weekend against SMU. Oklahoma State overall thirty first in the country in terms of total possessions brand Now they go up against one of the slowest teams at all of college basketball in North Texas. Three are sixty third in all of college basketball the guards to total possessions per game, and with North Texas, I do think that they're going to be able to control this game against a Olahoma State punch. That they continue to be well side the top one to ninety thirds of points slot on a purpose session basis, biggest forourt for Oklahoma State generating turnovers. They've been a top forty team with the guards a turnovers force on a purpose session basis, as headlined by Parteriodean give you three and emphasis two and a half seals only about seven a half points per contest, So Marceliu savery a lot to abdue Oostman in the front court of combined for twenty four points per contest. You've got to Spain shooting north of forty percent from three, and Bryce Thompson they'll shoot thirty four percent for three. But it is an Oklahoma State squad that they really do have their kryptonites down, though they're outside the top two seventy five in terms of both their two point shooting percent on offense and their two point shooting percent on defense.
Not a lot to be ahead there.
In for North Texas, this has been a top sixty five team in terms of their own three point shooting percentages eight and right has been missed right for the squad about fifteen points per game, just seventy four percent the free line, forty percent for three point in. Bennett Letillan has been able to shoot about forty eight percent from three pints of team twelve points per contest, and this team should flow down. Loves, you've got Moulay Susoko, give you six out rebounds preme. Interestingly, a little bit of a show, we say. Parallel with abdu Usbane beginning his career at North Texas. He actually played in the NIT two seasons ago, and he was with North Texas and I think he actually opted out of the NIT late in that when he might have been injured. But that was where Sosoko actually got to started replacing abdu Uspin in the NIT. So do find that to be very interesting, to say the least. But you've got Jonathan Massey say we'll give you seven eight points mid thirty three point shooter. The North Texas team has been a top fifty team themselves in terms of turnovers four sound a pur possession basis. They do a nice job of cutting out from three alling teams to shoe less than thirty one percent from the outside.
North Texas I think should be able to win from within.
I do think that this is going to be close enough for late game felling, and I think that's going to be just enough for the over. We have seen these NIT games be very high scoring. I did some of my total at a one forty and a half, So what can I be over of North Texas. I do believe that they're the better team here. Set them as to an half point favorite. Won't take them on the money line. And then these last two games do not have numbers up on the board. But I've got my handicap six thirteen, six fourteen from the Ocean Center. You've got incarnate word in Illinois State. I said, Illinois State is a five and a half point favorite, So modal after five with them six or more would take the points withincard word and then set a total one forty seven and a half, so one forty seven or less and on the over one forty eight or higher the under. You've actually got two relatively low tempo teams, but you've got a pair of teams that have just been executing on offense. Illinois State entered into the CBI fifty first in the country in terms of points scored on a purposession basis. They're just three under and thirteenth in the country in terms of total possessions pream incarnate word three hundred and twenty six with regards to total possessions preame. But neither of these teams are necessarily playing a whole of a lot of defense right now. As for Allanis State in terms of points a lot on a purposession basis to earn seventy eighth in all of college basketball and Garnet Word a nice hardy to runner in thirty ninth. So I do think that you're going to be able to find some nice offensive execution here. And both of these teams have really been able to stroke it from three points. Alloise State shooting thirty seven point one percent from three points in a roadside should re court environment that is a top thirty market off college basketball card word. Overall, they shoot thirty five five to nine percent for three. That's the top one our mark in all of college basketball. And the Illinois see You've had a pair of guys be able to step up in Johnnykinsinger a laun Chase Walker both gave you it just below fifteen points per contest. Both of these guys do combine to shoot north of forty percent from three point inch on the flip side for incarna word they bring in the backcourt a ball state as Xavion Bailey has been the main top score as he's been able to shoot about thirty nine a half percent from three sixteen a half points per contest. Jalen Anderson five sis fifteen points. He shoots thirty eight percent from the outside as well. Additionally, Dylan Hayman, he has been able to make some hay with fifteen points five boards, shoots over forty one percent from three point inch as he's standing right in the neighborhood about six and six six foot seven and turned pike at six foot seven. He's been about a thirty six percent three point shooter as well. But francarda word right now, they're allowing upon us to shoot well north of thirty five percent from three points. You're hovering right around about three earth with the guards to luponent three point shooting percent, albeit they also do a nice job will be able to grab offensive rebounds. That's something that all I say really doesn't do. Illanois seed outside the top two eighty in terms of percent of their misshots that result in and offensive rebound, and carter Ward they're more around sixty seven at all of college basketball and a roadside shoot for a venue that actually ascends into the top fifty. But Garner word also a little bit more loose with bell Onois State only turns ball over for about ten and a half times per contest. With the online seat does feel like you've got just a little bit more depth in terms that back courting. Carter Ward has a really nice starning five. You really don't get a ton outside that. Meanwhile, for this Allanite State team, you can rely upon someone like Adult and Banks to be able to give you four assists per contest. Al Chai Pointdexter Landed Wolf Jack Dawdry. All these guys give between about six a half to some points per contest. You've got pretty much all three of these guys shooting at least thirty six percent from three incleeen Tawtry shooting forty eight percent from three points. So I do think that the depth and just the overall level of competition that Allani State has played this season just gonna.
Be enough to be able to win out here one to life to.
Five with Thellinois seat six or more taking the points within carter ward, and then one forty seven or lesson on the over one forty eight or higher the under end that we wrap things up with six to fifteen sixty sixteen for the Gulf Coast and Cleveland State are going to be doing battle from the Ocean Center. I did say Cleveland State as a three point favor one of life to two and half with them three and a half four more ticket the points with Dung City, and then one forty two and a half for less and on the over one forty three and a half for higher the under. Now, it is a bit of a tricky spotier for Cleveland State because this is being played in the state of Florida, So Florida Coast is gonna have a nice little home court advantage there. But that said, even though Kishan Kellman has been very versatile in rock solid for the Bunch in Florida Gulf Coast fourteen points, seven a half boards and right around about six foot eight, he's been able to shoot in the low thirties from three points. Gen in games played away from home, Florida Golf Coast, a top forty team, turns the points scored on a per possession basis. Jevin Munniz has been a big reason why. Ten a half points, five and a half boards, four assists, just ohso versatile and shifty while shooting in the mid thirties from three points. Cleveland State is so good at being able to generate turnovers. This team entered into the CBI a top ten team in terms of turnovers source on a pur possession basis. You had a big performance yesterday. I have Dylan Arnett. I think that he's going to match up very well down low with Keishan Cleman. At six foot nine, he's afterging a little bit north of eleven and a half points, seven a half rebounds per game, and then Pabrima Teama. He doesn't really give you any sort of scoring whatsoever, and did play just fourteen minutes yesterday, But he has been really nice as a six to six sort of a point forward who's able to give you only about four or five points per game, but he'll do a four assists. He doesn't turn the ball over very much. They've been able to get a little bit more recently out Jashawn Stevenson as well, the guy that overall for the season has given you nine a half points per contest. As a freshman, he's been able to shoot about thirty five percent from three points. But if you look at what he's been able to do in a road slide, huge score Venue entered into yesterday shooting thirty seven a half percent from three points with north of ten a half points per contest, he has been at his best one he has been away from him. Slashchavoski has been able to give you double figures a long Tevin Smith. This is a Cleveland State team that additionally is a top fifty team in all of college basketball in turns of percent of their mid shots that you result in an offensive rebound, Albeit they do give up a lot of second and third chances in a game where neither of these teams really play up tempo. Florida Golf Coast outside the top three enterd with regards to total possessions spring Cleveland State clocking him more aroundbout two, hunred and seventy fifth and all of college basketball. To the credit of Florida Golf Coast, while you do have a bunch that is able to do a nice job giving yourself second and third chases in Cleveland State, our Golf Coast centered into yesterday line teams de gribed just twenty three point four percent of their mis shots as an offensive rebound. That is the top twenty five mark in the country. But that said, I do think that the turnovers of Cleveland Saint generates can to be justin off for your one to life two and a half year with Cleveland's eight three and a half for more take the points with Dunk City and then said, I totally where one forty two and a half for loss and on the over one forty three and a half or higher the under, And that'll wrap things up for the Tuesday edition of Coast Codes Soups Out part of the VCENT family podcasts, Big Things of Blake Lebo does great workover at Southeastern sixteen.
