In a world where we're constantly surrounded by people who don't share our faith, it's easy to get caught up in the idea that we have to be perfect, that we have to have all the right answers, and that we have to present the gospel in a certain way. But what if that's not true? What if the key to effective communication is not about us, but about being open to the Holy Spirit's guidance?

This week on Devotions with Christian Outdoors, Jon takes a closer look at Colossians 4, where Paul encourages us to devote ourselves to prayer, keeping alert with an attitude of thanksgiving. He reminds us that our words have the power to either build up or tear down, and that we need to be wise in how we communicate with those around us. We're also challenged to see every person we meet as an opportunity to share the love of Christ, and to let our speech be seasoned with grace.

As we navigate the complexities of relationships and conversations, it's easy to get caught up in our own perspectives and opinions. But what if we're missing out on the opportunity to truly connect with others by not being willing to listen and learn from them? The Jon shares a story about a man who was sentenced to prison for eight years, and how his failure to yield to the Holy Spirit led to devastating consequences.

If you're looking for a fresh perspective on how to live out your faith in everyday life, this episode is a must-listen. Join Jon as he explores the importance of being open to the Holy Spirit's guidance, and how that can lead to more effective communication and a deeper connection with those around us.

In this episode of Devotions with Christian Outdoors, Jon reflects on the book of Philippians, specifically the circumstances of its writing. Paul, the Apostle, is under house arrest in Rome, yet he finds a way to minister to others and use his situation for the glory of God.

The book of Philippians is one of the prison epistles, written by Paul while he's in custody. Despite the challenges he faces, Paul's effectiveness as a leader requires him to speak to other believers and ask for help. He learns to pivot his circumstances and use them as an opportunity for training and teaching. The speaker highlights the importance of recognizing when we need help, just like Paul did, and being willing to ask for it.

The episode also touches on the theme of community and interdependence in the church. Jon shares a personal story about learning to accept help from others during a difficult time in his life. He emphasizes that even the most gifted and called leaders need to recognize their limitations and rely on others. This is seen in the lives of Paul and his companions, Timothy and Epaphroditus, who provide support and help during his time of need.

As we listen to this episode, we're encouraged to reflect on our own lives and recognize when we need to ask for help. We're reminded that we're not alone in our struggles and that God has given us the corporate body of Christ to support us. Join Jon as he explores the lessons from the book of Philippians and how they apply to our lives today.

In a world where we often find ourselves searching for answers to life's biggest questions, one thing remains clear: God's will for our lives is not always what we expect. This week on Devotions with Christian Outdoors, the host shares a powerful story of how a kind act of kindness made an incredible impact on his life, and in doing so, reveals a profound truth about God's will and our place in it.

As we navigate the ups and downs of life, it's easy to get caught up in the idea that we need to be somewhere else, doing something else, in order to serve God. But what if that's not the case? What if God's will for our lives is not about the destination, but about being faithful where we are? Jon shares a personal story about a season of life where he was struggling to balance work, family, and faith, and how a generous stranger's encouragement helped him see things in a new light.

In this episode, Jon delves into the importance of being faithful where we are, and how that can look different for each of us. He shares a powerful scripture from 1 Corinthians 7 and reminds us to be content in our current circumstances, and to look for opportunities to serve others in the name of Jesus. It's a message that's both timely and timeless, and one that we can all learn from.

If you're feeling stuck, uncertain, or just plain tired, this episode is for you. Join Jon Goodwin as he shares a story that will encourage you to look for the opportunities to be faithful and bless others, right where you are. Listen in to hear the rest of the story and discover how God's will for your life might be more than you ever imagined.

Christian Outdoors Podcast is owned and operated by Christian Outdoor Adventures, Inc. a 501c3 non-profit operating in Taylors, SC.

In 2019, after a lot of prayer and research, founder and host, Pete Rogers launched Christian Outdoors Podcast with one drive and mission. "To talk about all things outdoors and how to enjoy God every day."

Through his 25 years as an outdoor writer, author, and speaker. Pete learned that any of the folks in the outdoor arena were Christians without a platform to express their faith. Cable television shied away from overt or subtle mentions of Christianity. Publications were clear, that no mention of God, much less Jesus was not allowed. This left a void for many who live for Christ but who also need to make a living with their product(s).

On October 1, 2019, the first episode was released with the commitment to release one episode a week for one full year and then re-evaluate. After that first year, the momentum was slow, but Pete felt that he needed to keep going.

The model is simple; Pete interviews stakeholders in the outdoor community and they discuss their passion for the outdoors, and we follow that with a discussion about their individual faith journey. On a regular basis, Pete will bring in two pastors who share his passion, tackle tough theological issues, and share their insight into what the Bible says about that particular subject.

Pete has a deep passion for the outdoors, spending more than 200 days a year in the outdoors, hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing wherever he can. But his passion for sharing the good news of Jesus is what drives him to continue to grow the podcast and reach as many people as he can through this medium.

We are just getting started, and with God's blessing, and the support of key partners, this ministry will continue to grow and reach folks with the good news of Jesus.

Christian Outdoors Podcast

Today we’re joined by someone who has spent more than three decades living, working, and serving in the outdoor industry—by many he is considered Royalty in the outdoor space,  and indeed his family thought so as well when they named him Royal.

Royal Peterson got his start in the outdoors at just 14 years old, competing at the BASS Federation level. From there, his passion for fishing and hunting grew into a career that has spanned more than 30 years. For the past 14 years, Royal has served as Director of Operations at Missouri Hunting and Fishing Adventures, one of the largest outfitting operations in the Midwest.

His influence goes far beyond the field and the water. Royal has taught casting and angling at the university level, coached high school bass fishing, and played an instrumental role in bringing high school fishing to Missouri, as well as helping with angler education through the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Over the years, Royal has appeared on ESPN2 Outdoors TV, ESPN Radio, the Pursuit Channel, Sportsman Channel, and numerous other networks. He has also guided and appeared on nationally syndicated programs including Babe Winkelman Outdoor Secrets, Small Town Hunting, Mossy Oak TV, Just Killin Time TV, Open Season Outdoors, and Schooled by Denny Brauer, just to name a few.

But as impressive as his career in the outdoors has been, that's not what matters most to Royal. He is a Christian who is passionate about using the outdoors as a platform to share his faith and point others to Christ.

When he's not hunting, fishing, guiding, or working in the outdoor industry, Royal enjoys spending time with his family—his wife Jill, their children Saige and Drake, and his granddaughter, Elora.

In the outdoor world we tend to be gear junkies. We love gear, plain and simple. One of the most important pieces of gear is our boots. In fact you will find large factions of people who are "boot snobs". I don't think I put myself in that category. But I am particular about my boots. And when I discovered LITE BOOTS.  A few years ago. My life and outdoor life changed dramatically.

Today we have joining us Mr. Brooks Tinsley, Brooks is the mastermind, founder and owner of LITE BOOTS. A lifelong passion for hunting and the outdoors inspired him to create a “better” boot – one built to withstand more than a single season of hard use . Frustrated by the lack of durability in existing footwear, Brooks set out to design boots that were super lightweight, and could depend on year after year. For hunters who are constantly in wet conditions, LITE BOOTS is a total game changer.

Beyond business, Brooks is a devoted Christian, husband, and father. He views Lite Boots more than just a company; it is a platform that allows him to share his faith, serve others, and spread the Gospel while pursuing his passion for the outdoors.

Today’s guest is Jamey Blakeley, a businessman, outdoorsman, volunteer firefighter, and someone who has a powerful story of faith, perseverance, and God’s faithfulness.

Jamey lives in Jane, Missouri, and got his start in business back in 2018 when he opened a small outdoor store. After about 14 months, he closed the store and took a different direction, eventually building the businesses he operates today—Blakeley’s Trapping, The Trappers Pole, and Blakeley’s Baits & Lures.

But Jamey’s story goes far beyond business and the outdoors.

He’s also a volunteer firefighter and the founder of 4 State Chaplains, a nonprofit ministry providing chaplain support to first responders. Jamey has pursued training through Christian Leaders Institute, where he’s working toward his Diploma in Divinity and has also completed chaplain courses that he puts into practice through his ministry.

Jamey gave his life to Christ when he was about eight years old, but he’ll be the first to tell you that it wasn’t until early 2025 that he really began living his life fully for God. Earlier this year, his church recognized that growth and commitment by voting him in as a deacon.

And the road to get here certainly hasn't been easy.

At just 32 years old, Jamey has faced some serious challenges. In 2021, he experienced a severe medical event that nearly resulted in a heart attack and ultimately led to him receiving a defibrillator. Then, in 2023, he battled an infection that took nearly two years to overcome. Four surgeries and eight months with a wound pump left him unable to do much of anything for more than 16 months.

But what could have broken him became part of the testimony God is using today.

Jamey’s story is one of perseverance, redemption, faith, and learning that sometimes God uses the hardest seasons of our lives to prepare us for the work He has called us to do.

I’m really looking forward to this conversation and hearing how God has taken Jamey’s experiences—from the outdoors and business to firefighting, ministry, and some incredibly difficult seasons—and used them to give him a passion for serving others.

Jamey, welcome to the Christian Outdoors Podcast.

I ran across today’s guest on Social Media and noticed right off that we share a common history as we both retired from The USDA - Wildlife Services. Dana Johnson earned a degree in Wildlife Science from Auburn University and spent 23 years with USDA‑Wildlife Services serving as a rabies biologist, airport biologist, district supervisor, and animal damage control biologist. He collaborated on numerous research projects on rabies and feral swine with Auburn University, has authored many articles on wildlife management, and launched the podcast "In His Name Outdoors" on May 27, 2025, after retiring from USDA.

Today's guest is Taylor Philpot, the Founder and Executive Director of Revive Outdoors, a nonprofit organization based in Alabama that's making a lasting impact through conservation, hunting mentorship, and faith. What started as a passion for the outdoors has grown into a mission focused on changing lives for eternity.

Through Revive Outdoors, Taylor and his team have introduced hundreds of people to hunting while building meaningful relationships and pointing people toward Christ. Their impact speaks for itself: 456 mentored hunts, 127 individuals connected with mental health resources, 55 people who have made decisions to follow Jesus, and more than $33,000 given back to their local community.

Taylor is also the host of the Revive Outdoors Podcast and YouTube channel, where he creates educational hunting content that not only helps hunters become more successful in the field but also uses the outdoors as a platform to share hope, purpose, and the Gospel.

We're excited to hear the story behind Revive Outdoors, how God has been working through this ministry, and why Taylor believes the outdoors can be one of the greatest places to change a life. Please welcome to the show, Taylor Philpot.

Today's guest is one of the top anglers competing on the Major League Fishing Bass Pro Tour, but fishing is only part of his story. Nick LeBrun is a devoted Christian, a husband to his wife Jolene, and the proud father of three children.

While he's known for competing at the highest level in professional bass fishing, Nick says the greatest transformation in his life happened away from the water. After years of running from God, he surrendered his life to Christ on July 8, 2018. Since then, he's found a peace, joy, and purpose that has reshaped every area of his life—from his family and his faith to the way he approaches competition.

Today, we're excited to hear about his journey in professional fishing, what it's like competing on the Bass Pro Tour, and how his relationship with Jesus Christ has influenced both his life and career.

Please welcome to the show, Nick LeBrun.

Today we're continuing our bass fishing series with one of the most respected anglers in the sport of bass fishing —the 2019 Bassmaster Classic Champion, Ott DeFoe.

Ott has built a reputation as one of the most consistent competitors on the professional circuit. Over an eight-year span, he finished in the Top 20 in more than half of the B.A.S.S. events he entered and cashed a check in nearly 70 percent of his tournaments—an incredible level of consistency at the highest level of the sport.

His list of accomplishments are impressive. He's the 2019 Bassmaster Classic Champion, won Bass Pro Tour Stage Three in 2020, captured the Bass Pro Tour Heritage Cup in 2021, claimed the Heavy Hitters title in 2022 along with its $100,000 top prize, teamed up with Andy Montgomery to win the Knighten Industries Heritage Cup in 2024, and in 2025 put on a dominating performance by winning Bass Pro Tour Stage 6 on the Potomac River by more than 20 pounds.

Today, we're looking forward to hearing about his career, his approach to staying consistently successful, as well as his passion for his faith.

Randy Howell is from Guntersville, Alabama, where he and his wife, Robin, have built a life together for the past 34 years. They are the proud parents of two sons, Laker and Oakley.

Randy is best known as the 2014 Bassmaster Classic World Champion, a 16-time Bassmaster Classic qualifier, a six-time Bassmaster champion, and the owner of more than 50 Top 10 finishes throughout his professional career. He also holds the Major League Fishing Big Bass record with an incredible 12-pound, 14-ounce largemouth bass.

While Randy's accomplishments on the water are impressive, his greatest passion is sharing his faith and serving others. He is a national spokesman for King's Home, a Birmingham-based ministry that provides refuge, hope, and support for abused youth, women, and children facing domestic violence, neglect, abandonment, homelessness, and other difficult circumstances.

Together, Randy and Robin have helped raise more than $4.7 million for King's Home through their annual online boat giveaway. At the end of each Bassmaster season, Randy donates his tournament boat, and supporters can enter to win by making a $100 donation through King's Home.

The Howells also lead RnR Outdoors, a ministry that connects with outdoorsmen across the country. Through church services, outdoor events, and speaking engagements, Randy shares his personal testimony, stories from the water, and the faith that has guided him throughout his life and career.

Today's guest is John David Taylor III, owner of Covey Point Outfitters in Goshen, Alabama. John David is a lifelong outdoorsman whose passion for hunting started as soon as he was old enough to carry a shotgun. Instead of waiting years to chase his dream, he jumped right in after graduating high school in 2021 and founded Covey Point Outfitters. Since then, he's been building a destination where hunters from across the country can experience first-class quail, pheasant, hog, deer, and other guided hunts while enjoying genuine Southern hospitality.

For John David, it's about much more than the hunt. He's passionate about creating lasting memories, building meaningful relationships with every guest who comes through the lodge, and sharing his faith by giving God the glory for every opportunity. At a young age, he's already turned a lifelong passion into a thriving family business, and today he's living out the dream he always knew was waiting for him in the outdoors.

At a young age, he's already turned a lifelong passion into a thriving family business, and today he's living out the dream he always knew was waiting for him in the outdoors. <a href="https://www.taurususa.com"> www.taurususa.com</a> <a href="https://www.cva.com"> www.cva.com</a> <a href="https://www.himtnjerky.com"> www.himtnjerky.com</a> <a href="http://www.nukemhunting.com">www.nukemhunting.com</a> <a href="https://www.christianoutdoors.org"> www.christianoutdoors.org</a> <a href="http://www.citrusafe.com">www.citrusafe.com</a> <a href="http://www.elimishieldhunt.com">www.elimishieldhunt.com</a> <a href="http://www.mossyoak.com">www.mossyoak.com</a>

"To talk about all things outdoors and how to enjoy God every day." Through his 25 years as an outdoor writer, author, and speaker.

We all allow outside sources to impact our hearts, our minds, and our missions. This is why we must focus on our Savior Jesus and commune with him daily. Today, Jon shares part of his story on this.

Today Jon discusses how our fears do not get us off the hook from fulfilling God's call on our lives. Sure some days we feel scared, unqualifed and inadequate but our God isn't scared, He is qualified and He is adequate.

In John 4 we read about an encounter that Jesus had with a lady at a well in Samaria. Prior to this we learn that the religious elite wouldn't even enter into Samaria due to their prejudices. The question we must ask ourselves is, are my prejudices limited my ability to live holy and to offer hope to the world?

This week's devotion focuses on staying faithful where you are. This is often easier said than done but our lives will be more effective when living faithfully where we than longing to live faithfully somewhere else.

First off, I'd like to apologize for not getting the devotions up the last few weeks. We have had some technical difficulties that altered our ability to upload.

This episode was uploaded several weeks ago after Jon got home from his time away in the mountains.

This week Jon takes a look at the idea of what it means to have the faith of a child, talks about the fact there are no outcasts when it comes to Jesus, and that Christ followers can be guilty of hindering others from seeing Jesus clearly. Hope this challenges you and encourages you as well.
