This week's show comes to you from District Wine Village in Oliver, British Columbia, the first wine village of its kind in Canada. It is a vibrant hub that showcases the flavours of the South Okanagan. The village is not just a wine destination but also a cultural and entertainment venue, with regular live music, events, and seasonal festivals. We learn about the Village today, including 8 wineries, a brewery, a French bakery, a bookstore, a restaurant, a roastery & coffee shop, and one distillery. Our guests include Sarah Isaksen, Tasting Room Manager at Canter Cellars, who welcomes us with a taste of their 2023 Chardonnay and updates on upcoming events & concerts, including 54. 54.40 and Blue Rodeo. There are some new faces in the village, including Todd Heintz, Owner and Winemaker at Spacedog Wines, who joins us along with his consulting winemaker, Pascal Madevon. They bring a couple of wines to taste, including the 2025 "Disinherited" 100% barrel- fermented Viognier and the 2025 "Grace Undone" 100% Rosé of Merlot. Spacedog's style is for bigger, bolder, full-bodied wines, and they compare themselves to other Okanagan wines as well as to wines from around the world. Another new face is Kyle Lyons, Winemaker at Apricus Cellars, who brings the 2025 Cabernet Franc Rosé and the 2025 Old Vines Riesling. Apricus Cellars focuses on small-lot, high- quality wines. When the Coghill and Main families moved to the Okanagan to build Neighbourhood Brewing, they fell in love with wine country and had to get involved. With their roots in the brewing industry, they were told by some that getting into wine was a “Foolish” endeavour, so they became Foolish Wines. We welcomed Kyle Stewart, Winemaker for Foolish Wines, who poured two of his wines, including the Spark 2024 Sauvignon Blanc and the Mischief 2022 Tempranillo (BC VQA). Tender Hope is a family-run winery that makes interesting, small-batch wines and has fun doing so, using traditional methods and minimal intervention during winemaking and aging. We were joined by Efi Perel, Owner and Winemaker at Tender Hope Winery, who brought two VQA wines for us to taste: the 2019 Blanc de Blanc Traditional Method Sparkling and a 2022 Pinot Noir.
