Adolescent pregnancies are always a reason for concern globally given the social and health implications. According to a new paper in the South African Medical Journal, there has been a noted decline in adolescent pregnancies in South Africa between 2021 and 2025, and especially so in our rural provinces. Lester Kiewit speaks to Dr Lesley Bamford, the acting chief director for Child and Women’s Health at the National Department of Health, and one of the co-authors of the article.
