He made the call at the Association's high-level bilateral seminar on protein food security held in Pretoria.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says the South African (SA) economy is showing resilience but remains constrained by weak growth, rising debt, and slow structural reform.

 While financial indicators have improved and key reforms are underway, the IMF which has recently concluded an assessment of the country's economic trajectory warns that without credible fiscal consolidation, stronger institutions, and faster execution of electricity, logistics, and governance reforms, SA risks prolonged stagnation and continued social stress.

A newly released report shows that South Africa is a country still committed to democracy, but struggling with deep social challenges. This is contained in the 2025 South African Reconciliation Barometer conducted by the Institute of Justice and Reconcilliation.

The study also shows that trust in political parties and public institutions remains low.
