The continent's premier business‑events trade show Meetings Africa 2026 marks 20 years

South Africa’s Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, earlier tabled his 2026/27 Budget against a more favourable backdrop, with public finances reaching a turning point and stabilising for the first time in 17 years.


Addressing Parliament, Minister Godongwana said the National Treasury is making headway in narrowing the budget deficit to 4.5% of GDP for the 2025/26 financial year. Innocent Semosa spoke to Anri Brink, Investment Analyst at Absa.

South Africa's Finance Minister delivers his 2026 Budget Speech

The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria has cut the Monetary Policy Rate by 50 basis points to 26.5%, citing sustained disinflation and improved macroeconomic stability. Speaking at the February committee meeting, the first of the year, the Governor of the apex bank, Olayemi Cardoso, noted that a moderate easing in the rate aligns with the recent slowdown in inflation.
