Senegal is facing renewed scrutiny from the International Monetary Fund, with questions raised over its debt management and fiscal transparency. The country, whose finances have been in crisis since the 2024 discovery of billions of dollars in debt hidden by the previous administration, is now working to secure funding and restore its credibility.

However, questions remain over whether the credibility of Senegal’s public finances can be restored without an IMF loan.

Joining the discussion to explore this further is Mikatekiso Kubayi, a Researcher at the Institute for Global Dialogue associated with UNISA (IGD) and a fellow at the Institute for Pan-African Thought and Conversation (IPATC) at the University of Johannesburg.
