The latest report by the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) shows that trade between Tanzania and South Africa consistently favoured Dar es Salaam between 2020 and 2024, with gold accounting for the bulk of exports. According to the report, Tanzania’s exports to South Africa nearly doubled over the period, rising from an average of about $1.145 million in 2020 to roughly $2.293 million in 2024. While gold dominates export earnings, Tanzania also exports a range of other products to South Africa, including agricultural commodities such as tobacco and coffee, as well as apparel and mineral fuels.
