South African authorities have failed to protect whistleblowers who expose corruption and criminal activities in government and state‑owned enterprises, leaving them vulnerable to attacks and killings. This is according to Human Rights Watch, which says authorities must conduct effective, prompt and impartial investigations to hold perpetrators accountable and ensure justice for victims and their families.
