Last year in October, South Africa (SA) exited the Financial Action Task Force's grey list after more than two years of intense scrutiny, entering a new assessment cycle by the FATF. This then means that the country has to tighten legislation as the FATF review, which runs until October 2027, will assess not only whether SA's anti-money laundering laws meet international standards but also whether authorities can successfully investigate and prosecute complex financial crimes.
