Malawi's Mutharika explains economic challenges

Reports from Malawi say that President Peter Mutharika when briefing Tony Blair, former British Prime Minister, laid bare the crisis he inherited regarding the economy when he took over the presidency.

He pointed to the food, forex, fertiliser and fuel which are described as being "on life support" when he took office last year.

He reportedly insisted his team has begun to stabilise the situation but warned that Malawi needs heavyweight partners to finish the job.
