A vehicle tracking and security technology company based in South Africa, Cartrack, is under scrutiny following the passing of a 29-year-old employee at its office, located north of Johannesburg in Gauteng province.

The family of Gcina Dhladhla is demanding answers, alleging she was unwell at work and had requested to go home but was told to continue working before she collapsed. Additionally, they have stated that there were delays in notifying them and contacting emergency services after her death.

The company has refuted allegations that she was barred from leaving work, claiming that emergency services were contacted as soon as her condition deteriorated and that she received prompt medical attention on site. What obligation of care does South Africa's labor law impose on employers in the event of a medical emergency at work?
