The Government of India has lifted a ban on international exports of non-basmati white rice and set a minimum export price (MEP) of 490 US dollars per tonne. The ban, which had been in place since July 20, 2023, was originally imposed to increase domestic rice availability. Huge rice shipments from India could bolster global supplies and push down prices, forcing other major exporters to lower their rates. South Africa's first electric minibus taxi model, eKamva, has been launched by a consortium led by GoMetro, at the Smarter Mobility Africa summit currently underway in Midrand north of Johannesburg. The launch of the first electric minibus taxi,  eKamva, marks a significant step towards sustainable and innovative transport solutions in South Africa. Spearheaded by GoMetro and other partners, it aims to transform the minibus taxi sector, which plays a vital role in public transportation. Thami Ngubeni spoke to GoMetro CEO Justin Coetzee.

The report highlights that this sector not only supports livelihoods but also contributes twelve per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Thami Ngubeni spoke to Khanyisa Ndyonya SNR Media Relations Manager at SAB about the findings, and the impact of this industry on Agriculture, local communities and economic growth.
