Kenya is selling its 15% stake in telecom operator Safaricom to South Africa's Vodacom in a deal worth around $1.6 billion. Facing high public debt, limited room to raise taxes, and annual debt repayments that absorb 40% of government revenues, the country is divesting some of its assets to bolster its finances. The East African nation is also set to divest from other state-owned firms, including the sale of shares in Kenya Pipeline Company, in an initial public offering on the Nairobi Securities Exchange scheduled for next year.

The U.S. aircraft manufacturer is set to establish one of the continent's most advanced maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities. President Bola Tinubu says the collaboration aims to reduce the country’s current reliance on costly overseas aircraft servicing.

Boeing to establish maintenance, repair, and overhaul facilities in Nigeria

South Africa's financial markets are heading for a shake-up as the country officially enters the final phase of one of the biggest benchmark reforms in decades. The South African Reserve Bank has confirmed that the Johannesburg Interbank Average Rate, known as JIBAR, will be discontinued at the end of next year. It will be replaced with ZARONIA, a newer and more accurate method of measuring the true cost of money in the banking system, starting at the end of December 2026.
