The Zimbabwean government has raised the minimum monthly wage for domestic workers from $85 to $90 in an attempt to ease pressure on low-income earners facing rising living costs. While the increase offers some relief, the country’s domestic worker wage has been criticised for remaining low compared with rates in South Africa, Kenya and Egypt.

Economists say the real impact will depend on inflation, exchange rates and enforcement.

A recent landmark study reveals that Rwanda is outperforming global averages in women’s representation across financial sector leadership, while also highlighting critical challenges in sustaining the pipeline of future women leaders.

The research, conducted by Oliver Wyman and Mercer under the Women in Financial Services initiative, was commissioned by the National Bank of Rwanda, Access to Finance Rwanda, and the Women in Finance Rwanda Foundation. The Rwanda 2025 Study is the first of its kind on the continent.

It draws on data from more than 50 financial institutions and insights from over 1500 professionals across Rwanda’s banking, insurance, pensions, investment management and fintech sectors.
