Despite a high‑profile student walkout protesting ICE enforcement, Clovis Unified School District did not see a major spike in absences. District data shows 642 unexcused absences on Feb. 10, the day of the protest—fewer than the 707 unexcused absences recorded on a typical school day the following week. Maybe headlines should have read, "Thousand Stay in School, While Hundreds Walk Out."

A former Starbucks shift supervisor in Clovis is suing the coffee giant after he was fired when managers learned he was a registered sex offender. The lawsuit claims Starbucks knew about his conviction when it hired him in 2017 and kept him employed for eight years with no disciplinary issues. His lawsuit claims the firing violated California’s Fair Chance Act, which limits how employers can use criminal history. Starbucks says the claims are without merit and plans to fight the case.

The war in Iran escalated overnight after Israel said it killed two of Iran’s top security officials in targeted strikes in Tehran, including Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and Basij commander Gholamreza Soleimani. President Trump is also urging Europe and NATO allies to help secure and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning that global energy supplies are at risk, but several allies have rejected direct military involvement.
