We talk about their notions of brand, the campaigns and projects they have worked on, their points of view on marketing campaigns, and practically anything that can offer insights into the nuts and bolts of brand marketing. Manu is a full-stack marketing leader with 21+ years of experience, now working as a Fractional CMO for startups on brand, digital, and growth initiatives. In the very first episode of Brandwidth, Manu Prasad speaks to Gurudev Prasad, Partner & Co-founder of BusyBeeBrands, a boutique brand-building firm that helps challenger brands leverage the power of consumer insights. In addition to his experience on global brands as a brand manager, at BusyBeebrands Guru has worked with founders and brand custodians on brands across a wide spectrum of categories - from fashion to finance, and chai to crypto. Manu and Guru chat on a variety of things - beginning with the latter’s early interest in insights and brand building, the professional journey and the various lessons from it on managing one’s career, and being entrepreneurial. The conversation then moves to how, in a little over a decade of running BusyBeeBrands, Guru has seen changes in how founders think and operate, and how their approach to insights have changed too. He also speaks about how the consumer mindset has changed, and the impact that broadband accessibility has had on their behaviour. The second half of the conversation goes deeper into core brand concepts - the relevance of brand positioning, whether it plays a role in shaping the consumer narrative in today’s world of moment marketing, and how brands can use ‘purpose’ to create a brand narrative. Guru also has an interesting take on how influencers are working for brands. Before they wrap up, they briefly chat about AI, as well as some of the books that have influenced Guru’s thinking.
