 German-born William Dietert and his two brothers came to Texas in the 1850s. William built a dam on Cibolo Creek to power a saw mill and grist mill...the first business in Boerne.  A cotton gin and press were added to the enterprise. Dietert signed the petition to form Kendall County and served as a Commissioner and County Judge.  William Dietert’s grandson Clarence Dietert, served in World War 2, served as Mayor of Boerne and died on May 26th, 2005 at the age of 91.

And born 100 years ago today - the OG Rat Packer Sammy Davis Jr. - Jim Morrison of The Doors born in 1943, and Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band was born in 1947.  And it was on this date in 1980 we lost John Lennon.

Crestmont Christian Preparatory School has officially announced that they will be moving into the Historic Old Boerne High School and City Hall building on Blanco Road for the upcoming 26/27 school year. Not only is this an incredible opportunity for growth for the school, it honors the long standing traditions of Boerne. Congratulations and thank you Crestmont Christian Prep.

If approved by City Hall, Buc-ee's could see a 5.15 acre increase in their zoning to use for employee parking. The planning and zoning commission unanimously agreed to this change, and the council will most likely consider it in the New Year. City staffers also confirmed that the retail giant is fully complying with regulations to reduce nighttime glare from lights under “Dark Sky Provisions”.

 

In a story in the Boerne Star, The City of Fair Oaks Ranch is moving forward with repairing Old Fredericksburg Road, which will cost them a little over $200,000. According to the city’s resolution, The project should begin in March or April, and take about 4 to 6 months. In addition, the City Council Thursday also voted to upgrade public-safety software systems, approve an emergency water-supply agreement, heard an update on a speed-zone change and accepted a donation to spruce up the Police Department.

Big week for the game of football- we’ll start by saying let the party begin. Boerne-Richmond Randle- a 2024 rematch unlike any other. The winner packs their bags for Arlington next week. And last year’s game took place at a rainy McLane (Baylor) Stadium in Waco. This time, it’ll be in the loud, nice and dry Alamodome. We will have coverage on Boerne Radio if you can’t make it downtown on Friday. Coverage will begin at 6:30. 

Geneva QB Caleb Quitadamo has been nominated for Private School QB of the year by TexasFootball.com. Voting is the determining factor in this one- the sports blog at BoerneRadio.com has the link for you.

But also in college football. Yesterday afternoon, the selection committee for the College Football Playoffs made their decisions- to answer immediate questions, UT is out, Notre Dame is out, and Texas Tech gets a bye week. Texas A&M will play Miami December 20 in round 1. Texas is playing Michigan in the Citrus Bowl on New Year's Eve. As for the UTSA Roadrunners, they will play Florida International in the First Responder Bowl on the 26th. TCU vs USC will be the game that makes up this year’s Alamo Bowl on December 30.

As heard here on Boerne Radio last night- your Boerne Greyhounds beat Alamo Heights once in September, but they would have to do it again for a regional title. My broadcast partner, Polo Botello said it best:

I could spend hours recapping a very eventful game, but I only have 2 minutes- so instead, I’ll set the scene: late in the 4th… 18 seconds left in the game… Alamo Heights had already taken the lead on a touchdown, 49-48. Boerne has a chance down the field… let’s take you to the play. 

Audio: Sweeney to Frazier TD 

Sweeney finds Frazier, and adds a 2-point conversion after. Boerne is up 56-49 at this point. Kickoff occurs, and Alamo Heights has less than 10 seconds remaining. Here’s how the game ended.

What a game. Final 56-49 Boerne wins… and will compete in a semifinal rematch from one year ago- Richmond Randle who is undefeated, comes to the Alamodome next week at 7pm to face Boerne in another classic. We’ll have coverage here on Boerne Radio as always.
